Hospitals are doing that more and more. I was talking to one of my instructors about it, how she quit being a floor nurse and started teaching because the ratios were getting too ridiculously high that she couldn't get all of her work done. She said she'd go home in tears, feeling like she was a bad nurse who gave bad care, but really she was running her ass off all day. Healthcare is so broken. We have to remember that hospitals are businesses who really don't give a shit about patient care, but care more about making money. It's hard when you do actually care about your patients and their welfare and you want to do a good job, but they just set you up for failure by giving you more than can be done by one person.
