On the Columbia thing--I think it just goes to show you that sometimes you get better work when you don't have everything handed to you. The only problem is how it doesn't translate into academia whatsoever. I could never teach at UK's architecture school, for example, because my undergrad degree was at UK, which they consider too unprestigious.

On MIT--I've desperately wanted to do that program for a few years now. What a dream, a perfect fusion of everything I care about. How are you feeling about the application process? Daunting?
