What are you doing Yoochun?
I'm sleeping.
It's time to wake up.
No. Never.
You'll have to wake up sometime.
I'm going to sleep forever.
You can't sleep forever Yoochun.
You do when you die....
The phone rang, startling Noona. She couldn't find the handset right away because HE had thrown it somewhere. By the time she found it, the answering machine picked up. It was Changmin.
"Noona, pick up the phone."
"Changmin," she answered nervously. "What is it?"
There was silence on the other end.
"It's Yoochun. He's....."
Silence once more.
"Changmin, tell me. What's happened to Yoochun?"
"I have to go now, Noona. Stay by the phone. I'll call you again."
"Wait, Changmin...don't hang up."
Click.....
Noona's knees buckled under her, she fell to the floor still holding the receiver to her ear.
"Yoochun...no....."
Seconds turned to minutes, minutes turned to hours. Noona remained motionless, the cordless phone still in her hand. Then, the phone rang again. Instantly, she answered.
"Changmin, is that you?"
The magnae's voice answered softly.
"Noona. I'm sorry I had to hang up. Noona. Yoochun is very sick. He's in the hospital. I've made arrangements to get you in. Please come now."
Noona began to cry. Changmin did his best to calm her down.
"It's ok, Noona. He's getting help now. Just come and see him, please?"
"I don't think it's a good idea for me to do that."
Changmin convinced her to come.
She got dressed in a hurry and headed out for the hospital. She followed Changmin's instructions to the letter. She walked up to the security desk and quietly announced herself.
"I'm here to see Park Yoochun. I was told to tell you that I am his "Noona."
The security guard raised an eyebrow.
"Well, you are not what I expected!"
The security guard brought Noona up to Yoochun's room. Changmin was waiting for her. He gave her a great big smile and a hug.
"It's ok Noona. He's going to be ok. Don't be afraid."
Noona looked up to find the puzzled faces of the rest of the DBSK members staring at her. Behind them was an older man whom she recognized as their manager. Next to him was a beautiful woman Noona assumed was Yoochun's mother. Noona swallowed hard.
"Oh my God Changmin, why did you bring me here?"
"It's ok. They know everything."
"What? Everything?"
Changmin blushed.
"Well, not everything."
Noona let out a sigh of relief.
"Go in. Be brave. He looks bad, but he's going to be fine."
Noona opened the door to Yoochun's room. She was shaking. She took one look at Yoochun and began to cry once more. She put her hands to her mouth to muffle the sound. Yoochun was hooked up to an IV and a heart monitor. He was on oxygen to help him breathe. His sleep was restless, and small moans escaped his lips with every breath. Noona sat down next to him. She ran her fingers through his hair. She couldn't stop shaking. Changmin watched through the window as Noona planted delicate kisses on his forehead, eyelids and mouth. He sighed deeply, knowing she still loved him. He regretted calling her now. This wasn't going to be easy.
Noona placed her hand over Yoochun's heart . She looked at monitor at the wall. She wasn't a doctor by any means, but she could tell his pulse was too fast.
"Please baby," she begged him. "Please try. Get better soon."
Instinctively, she lay her head on top of him and listened long and hard to his pounding heart.
"Please baby. Please....so strong. You'll be ok. You'll be ok..."
"Noona..."
Yoochun's eyes fluttered open.
"Yes Yoochun, it's Noona."
She did her best to smile.
Yoochun tried to sit up.
"No, baby...just relax."
But Yoochun was stubborn and propped himself up on his elbows. He reached out and touched her cheek.
"Noona, I'm so sorry....." He collapsed back down on the bed.
"Shh, it's ok. I'm the one who is sorry. This is all my fault."
Yoochun shook his head in disagreement.
"Yoochun, I should go now. Your mother is here. I'm not comfortable."
"It's ok, Noona. Please stay with me," he pleaded.
Noona smiled at him. It was so hard for her to leave him. But it had to be done.
"No Yoochun. I have to go. I have to leave. I have to say goodbye."
Yoochun stared into her eyes. He could finally see it. This was goodbye forever.
"No," he said angrily. "You promised me. You promised to stay with me. You promised to love me forever."
"I was wrong Yoochun. I'm sorry. It's all my fault. I have to go now."
"You lied to me," his elevated voice could be heard through the door. Changmin began to panic.
"Oh shit, " he said to himself, "what have I done?"
"You said forever...."
"Forever is a long time Yoochun. You'll forget about me. You'll see. You'll find a nice Korean girl and forget all about me."
"No. Never." He was becoming more and more agitated.
"I'm leaving Yoochun. It's over now."
"Bitch," he screamed at her. His breaths were short and shallow. The monitor on the wall betrayed the violent pumping of his heart.
"I hate you," he yelled at her. "Get out. Lying bitch, I hate you!"
Noona ran out of his room just as the doctors and nurses began rushing in.
"Allright boy," the doctor scolded him. "That's quite enough." The nurse gave Yoochun a sedative to calm him down. The doctor listened to Yoouchun's heart with a stethoscope until his pulse slowed down. Slowly, he drifted off to sleep.
"Noona......"
Noona's body felt numb. She could barely hold herself up. She held onto the wall for dear life, but felt herself slipping. Changmin rushed to her and helped her up.
"I'm so sorry," she said.
She got to her feet and looked at Yoochun's mother. She bowed deeply several times and kept apologizing.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry..."
"Goodbye Changmin," she whispered. "Goodbye."
Noona walked away. Walked away from her Yoochun. Walked away from her love.....
Yoochun's recovery was slow, but within a few days he was back at the apartment he shared with DBSK. He was still very tired, and was not allowed to work too hard. The boys were all resting around the kitchen table when the door bell rang. Changmin got up and answered the door.
The postman had a special delievery. It was for Yoochun. Changmin swallowed hard, knowing it was from HER. He walked into the kitchen and handed the small package to Yoochun. He silently motioned to his hyungs to leave Yoochun alone while he opened the mail.
Yoochun's hands were shaking as he opened the box. Inside was an asthma inahler and a letter. A letter from HER. He opened the letter and began to read it.
Dear Yoochun,
I found this while cleaning up my house. I don't know if it's still good, but I figured you could use it. I'm all packed and ready to go....
Yoochun stopped reading.
"Go," he asked himself. "Go where?"
He continued reading her note.
I'm leaving this evening for home. I'm going back to America.....
"America?"
My flight leaves this evening. Goodbye Yoochun. Say goodbye to Changmin for me....
"No...Noona...."
Yoochun crumpled up the paper. He grabbed his keys and started for the door. Changmin stopped him.
"No hyung, " he pleaded with him. "Let her go."
"Get out of my way, Changmin," Yoochun scowled. Changmin would not budge. The two men looked at each other intently. Changmin nodded.
"I'm going with you, hyung. Give me the keys."
The two rushed out together. Changmin drove like a mad man to the airport. He dropped Yoochun off. Despite being exhausted and not fully recovered, he ran at top speed through the airport. Yoochun stopped briefly at a ticket counter to find Noona's flight. He was completely breathless.
"Where's the next plane going to the US?"
The girl behind the counter told him the gate number. He took off again running, not caring that he couldn't breathe. He got to the gate, but it was too late. The plane had already loaded and was on the runway. Yoochun looked up helplessly as the plane carrying his Noona took off.
Yoochun banged his head against the window. His hand reached up as if he could pluck the jet from the sky. He closed his eyes and began to weep. All around him turned black. He clutched his chest in agony and slid to the floor...
"Noona...."
What are you doing Yoochun?
I'm dying.
Don't be silly.
I can't breathe.
Yes you can.
My heart hurts. I'm going to die.
It's going to be ok, Yoochun.
No, it's not. Leave me alone!
Why do you want to be alone?
I want to die in peace.
You are not dying, Yoochun, you silly litttle boy.
I'm not a little boy anymore. I'm a man.
Are you really?
Yes, and I want to die.
Why do you want to die, Yoochun?
Because my love has left me.
No silly, she hasn't left you.
She's gone. She's gone forever.
Forever is a long time, Yoochun. Wake up. Wake up.....
Arms reached out to hold him. They were warm and soft. They held him gently.
"Noona....."
Yoochun opened his eyes and stared at the face of the woman he loved.
"It's ok, Yoochun," she whispered. "I couldn't do it. I couldn't go. No matter how hard I tried. I couldn't leave you."
"Noona...."
Yoochun buried his head in her arms. But their reunion was marred by the flashing of cameras. A crowd had formed around them. The paparazzi and crazed fans who had recognized him were everywhere. Noona was frightened. Not for herself, but for her poor sweet Yoochun.
"You see, Noona. This is what my life is like. No privacy. Are you sure you want to be a part of it now?"
Noona looked up at all the strangers who were invading her space. They shouted out at her.
"Who are you? What is your relationship to Park Yoochun?"
She looked at Yoochun who smiled lovingly at her.
"You are famous now Noona. No turning back is there?"
"I made a promise. I'm going to keep it."
"Forever is a long time, he whispered in her ear."
"We'll see my sweet little dong-saeng."
"Who are you calling little?"
The End
