Lee Soo Man paced up and down the floor of his office. The mayor of SM Town puffed on a fat cigar and fidgeted with his pocket watch. He flipped open to check on the time. The train with his shipment of gold was due into town at exactly 10:45 that morning. The gold was to be used to pay the Chinese who were working on the railroad, but in reality, Lee was using the gold for illegal purposes in SM Town. Gambling, prostitution and opium dens were all financed by him and were being run by his cronies, The Su Ju Gang.   With the profits earned from these endeavors, he hoped to bribe his way to becoming governor of the territory. Leeteuk, the Sheriff of SM Town along with Heechul his deputy and the rest of the Su Ju Gang, were all on the take as well. They insured that everything was run according to plan and that nobody got out of line.

But that morning, as the 10:45 train came round the bend at Rising Sun Pass, things for Lee Soo Man and the Su Ju Gang took an ugly turn.

The train came to a screeching halt as it reached the turn at Rising Sun Pass. The conductor went forward to see why the train had stopped. The engineer stood with his hands in the air. Five masked men on horseback with guns threatened to blow up the train with dynamite if the gold shipment headed for SM Town was not handed over to them. The passengers all looked out the window to see what was happening. Four of the robbers came on board the train while one remained, still holding the engineer at gunpoint.

“Where’s the gold,” the leader shouted, his voice muffled by the bandana covering his nose and mouth. The other gang members were also wearing bandanas to conceal their faces. Two of the robbers went forward, lead by the conductor to the car where the safe was. The other two stood in the passenger car, making sure none of the passengers tried anything funny. One of the gunmen started to cough. It was quite clear that he was unwell.

“Hold yourself together boy,” his companion said, but the sick man kept coughing.

A woman’s voice interrupted them

“Your friend needs help, “ she said. “He sounds very ill.”

The sick robber looked at the woman. His gun was shaking in his hand. He swallowed hard and tried not to stare at her. But it was impossible to look away from her, because her eyes never left his.

“Don’t try anything stupid woman,” his companion ordered. “You stay right where you are. That goes for everyone. We only want the gold and nothing else. Everyone sit tight, and no one gets hurt.”

A small explosion rocked the train. A few passengers shouted.

“Easy folks, that’s just the safe. Nothing wrong with the train. You’ll get to town soon enough.

Indeed, the robber spoke the truth as the other men came back through the passenger car with sacks of gold.

“Let’s go,” the leader said as they retreated out the passenger car. The tallest of the robbers tipped his hat at the passengers.

“It was a pleasure doing business with y’all," he said.

The sick man was the last to leave the train. As he did, his eyes met the woman’s once more.

The young woman opened up a window on the train and looked out. She watched as the infamous Dong Bang Boys saddled up and rode off into the hills, leaving a trail of dust behind them. She sat down in her seat and buried her face in her hands. Her body shuddered and she began to cry.

“Micky….”
