Day 2

Junsu was awakened by Jaejoong, the Anthropologist and expert on folklore in the middle of the night.

“Junsu, get up and hurry. Changmin’s moved Subject A to a padded cell. He woke up and became too aggressive for the medical staff to handle him.”

The scientist dressed himself quickly and followed Jae to the area where special rooms were created to contain violent specimens. So far they didn’t have an occasion to use any of them; most of the subjects being docile until now.

Inside the padded rooms were cameras mounted on the ceiling. The padded cell and the specimens contained within could also be observed from a secure room with a one way mirror.

Junsu and Jae could hear Subject A howling all the way down the hall. The hair on the back of Junsu’s neck stood up.

Inside the observation room, Changmin, head of security, stood with one of his guards. Junsu narrowed his eyes at the tall, lanky officer; the younger man acknowledging the scientist with a nod.

“What’s going on?”

Junsu wiped his glasses on his lab coat and stared out through the one way mirror.

“Oh my God.”

The creature was a mess. He had pulled his stitches; blood running down his side from the bullet wound. The male known as Subject A, was like a rabid dog; stumbling to and fro, he tried to claw his way out of the padded cell. He ran back and forth, slamming his body into the four walls hoping that they would give way. The sight of the creature’s bright, red blood against the stark, white walls reminded Junsu of a horror movie.

“We have to help him,” he told Changmin.

The officer raised an eyebrow.

“I’m not sending my men in there. He’s far too violent.”

“Use a tranquilizer dart. We need to do something.”

Changmin sighed.

“Hold down the fort,” he ordered his guard and he left the observation room, Junsu and Jaejoong following him down the hall. The officer stopped at a cabinet and pulled out a tranquilizer rifle and a few darts.

“Looks like I’m going into the lions den guys,” he told the two scientists. “You owe me for this one.”

They ran to the entrance of the padded room; two more guards standing at attention. Changmin pumped the rifle and nodded his head. The door opened and he stormed in; Junsu and Jaejoong stood horrified as the creature lunged at the security officer, only to be taken down by darts rapidly fired and strategically aimed. Changmin backed out of the room; the gun still aimed at Subject A, the creature beginning to feel the effects of the sedative. Once Changmin was cleared of the threshold, his men secured the door.

“What now?” Junsu asked him.

“We wait until the darts take hold. Then the med staff can go in and do their thing.”

Changmin contacted the head surgeon who arrived shortly with medical supplies. Together, they waited for Subject A to pass out.

No longer able to stand, the demon slid to the floor; his pitiful cries reverberating off the walls of the cell. His calls were heard by Subject B, the pregnant female. She too had been removed to a similar room. It was adjacent to the males’ and she had sensed his presence the moment he had arrived. Her own cries were muffled by the thick padding of her room. Too worn out from her pregnancy, she remained on the floor; body pressed against the wall she shared with her mate. The girl was clever; she knew she was with child. It was best for her to lay still and accept her fate. She was imprisoned, and there was nothing she could do.

Minutes went by and the door was opened. Armed with more darts, Changmin cleared the way for the doctor and the two scientists to enter. It was Junsu who made the initial contact.

“There, there,” he whispered softly to the male. “Remember me?”

A low growl emanated from the creatures throat.

“Give me some gauze,” he told the med staff, and he was handed a wad of bandages.

Despite the danger he lifted the demon’s wing to gain access to his wounded side. The creature hissed at him; fangs gnashing out as Junsu pressed the cotton batting lightly on the torn skin.

The animal mewled; eyes misting over; tiny drops falling off of long, delicate lashes.

The creature took Junsu’s breath away.

“You are so beautiful,” he told the demon; scientist and specimen staring at each other for a moment; the creature’s eyes narrowing; low guttural sounds escaping his lips. The creature breathed heavily; chest heaving; a fine film of sweat glistening off of pale skin.

Junsu swallowed hard as the creature lifted its head exposing his long, sleek neck. The male bared his fangs once more; tongue swiping across his full mouth in one final act of defiance.

“You’re a great deal of trouble.” He chastised the beast; the male’s eyes finally drooping and fluttering closed.

Junsu went to back away, but he was surprised when a clawed hand reached out and grabbed him by the collar of his lab coat. Changmin rushed in, gun aimed at the beast, but Junsu shooed him away.

“It’s ok,” he told the demon. It’s ok.”

The creature reluctantly let go; arm falling to his side; finally succumbing to the sedative.

The medical team rushed in and did their job; Changmin with his gun at the ready ever watchful for signs of danger. Junsu and Jaejoong exchanged scientific banter and waited for the doctors to finish. The surgeon gave the thumbs up and they left the room. The mess was cleaned up and Junsu once more approached the beast.

“You are so brave,” he told the creature while running his fingers through Subject A’s long, silken hair. “You must be strong now; strong for your girl. She’s going to have your baby.”

Junsu gently stroked the animal’s cheek; the male moaning softly. The scientist stayed with him until the animal fell into a deep sleep; Junsu smiling as the creature began to snore.

The scientist reluctantly left the room, the guards securing it behind him. As he walked down the hall, Jaejoong made an observation.

“Your ID badge is missing.”

Junsu looked at his lab coat and shrugged his shoulders.

“I must have dropped it. No big deal.”

The two scientists walked arm and arm, discussing their plans for the demon and his mate

Within the confines of the padded cell; the demon opened his clawed hand, revealing the ID badge he had cleverly removed from the scientist’s white lab coat. Eyes focused in the dark, struggling to comprehend the foreign words encased within the plastic. Lips and tongue came together in an effort to produce a sound. In a deep and raspy voice, the demon spoke the words.

“Junsu.”
