Yoochun awoke that evening to find that his encounter with the Djin known as Jaejoong was not a nightmare, but a horrible reality.
“You filthy bastard,” the vampire shrieked at the Genie. “What have you done?
The Djin smiled at him; wearing only an apron, he appeared to be cooking. Yoochun didn’t recall having a stove in his home. Apparently, the Genie felt it was necessary to produce one out of thin air.
Ignoring the fact that he was still naked from the previous days encounter with the perverted Genie, Yoochun stood with tightened fists ready to strike.
“Not the face,” Jaejoong answered in defense.
The vampire pulled back his arm ready to punch the Genie in the nose but stopped when he smelt something unpleasant in the air.
“What the fuck is that smell?”
Yoochun inhaled deeply and then covered his nose and mouth. He began to wretch.
“Is that garlic? You fucking jerk! You’re cooking with garlic?”
The Genie shrugged.
“My bad.”
With a wave of his hand, the garlic smell dissipated.
“I should kill you; rip you limb from limb,” the vampire threatened his unwanted house guest.
The Genie stuffed a piece of meat in his mouth and offered a bite to Yoochun. The vampire was not amused.
“You know full well I can’t eat food anymore.”
The genie smiled.
“More for me then.”
He shoved a slice of meat in his face, the vampire watching in disgust.
Yoochun turned his back on the Djin and stared at the rest of his abode. The Genie had taken the liberty of re-decorating it; glittering silks, embroidered pillows and finely woven carpets were strewn across the small house; exotic decor from the far reaches of the mystic East adorning every inch of the once dark and dreary home.
“You’ve turned my place into a brothel, I see,” the vampire stated with disappointment in his voice.
“Not a harem, my friend; a palace; a place shimmering with gold and opulence. You may be a creature of the night, but there’s no reason to live in complete darkness. It’s no wonder you are morose, this place was so gloomy.”
Yoochun sighed deeply.
“First you drug me with your magic blood and rape me. Now you’ve made my home look like the boudoir of a cheap harlot. You really are a fucking fairy.”
The Genie lost his cool. Slamming his frying pan on the wood burning stove he pointed a slender finger at the vampire.
“I am not a fairy. Do you even know what fairies are? Have you ever seen one? They are vile and disgusting creatures.”
The two males stared at each other; the Genie with his hands on his hips; the vampire, eyes narrowed and turning blood red. The Djin began to laugh.
“What’s so funny?” Yoochun asked.
The Genie sighed.
“We’ve just had our first spat!”
The brooding Nosferatu rolled his eyes.
“By Aladdin’s beard, my dinner!”
The Genie returned to the frying pan to rescue his meal.
“I’m going to clean myself up and take a bath.”
“Do you want company? I summoned forth a huge tub. We can share it.”
The vampire waved his hand.
“No thanks.”
He wandered off to the bathroom while the Genie continued to stuff his face.
After a long, hot soak, the vampire returned to his bed room to get dressed, only to find the Genie garbed in his finest clothes.
“What the Hell do you think you’re doing? Those are mine.”
The Genie straightened out his cravat.
“They fit nicely, don’t they?”
The Nosferatu was not pleased.
“I’m going out to feed; I work alone. If you insist on taking the night air, that’s your business. Don’t follow me.”
The Genie watched as the lithe and wiry Nosferatu dressed himself. He marveled at the vampire’s impeccable style and grace.
“Before you go, I think you should see this.”
Jaejoong handed Yoochun a copy of the local newspaper. The headlines were bold and alarming.
“Human corpse discovered inside tiger’s pen at the city zoo.”
The vampire read the article and handed the tabloid back to the Djin.
“What do you make of it?” he asked, the Genie surprised that the Nosferatu cared about his opinion.
“This isn’t your work,” the Genie answered him. “It’s not you’re way.”
The vampire nodded his head. For once, he and his annoying roommate agreed upon something.
“A vampire, even if rabid and insane wouldn’t eat flesh. We only drink blood.”
The Genie rubbed his chin. The vampire watched him with curiosity. He could almost imagine the Genie’s brain consisting of wheels and gears that were turning.
“Perhaps some fool got drunk, and on a bet, climbed into the tiger’s cage.”
Jaejoong shook his head.
“No, those bars are impossible to squeeze through and the enclosure, in general, far too secure to breach.”
Yoochun donned his top hat and started putting on his gloves.
“The corpse was naked; no clothes, no belongings. Doesn’t that seem odd to you? I think the matter needs further investigation.”
Yoochun grabbed his sword cane and walked toward the door.
“Leave the investigating to the police. It’s their job to solve this mystery. Maybe they’ll hire that Sherlock Holmes fellow.”
Yoochun walked outside; the Genie following after. The door was locked and the two gentlemen walked onto the city streets.
“It could be a werewolf, you know.”
The vampire stood still. Werewolves were his ancient enemies, even more so than magic users.
“If it’s a werewolf, we should stop it.”
The Genie nodded. I concur; dirty animals; even worse than fairies.”
The vampire chuckled.
“You really hate fairies, don’t you?”
The Djin shivered.
“They’re ghastly.”
The vampire patted the Genie on the back.
“I’m beginning to tolerate you, Jaejoong. I must be sick.”
The two strode down the street together determined to put aside their differences in order to solve the riddle of the corpse in the tiger’s cage.
Jaejoong watched in the shadows as Yoochun fed upon his victim; a known thief that had managed to evade the police for several months.
“Fascinating,” the Genie said to himself; he had never been privy to such a gruesome sight.
Yoochun made fast work of the thief; finishing him off and dropping the body to the ground where it slumped. Licking his lips, the vampire retracted his fangs and slowly walked away; the Genie providing a mist to obscure their presence.
“How do you feel,” the Genie asked.
Yoochun smirked.
“Never better.”
They quickened their pace as shrill whistles echoed into the night air; the body quickly discovered by the authorities.
“To the zoo?”
Yoochun nodded. If the man eater was a werewolf, it would have to be stopped.
The Genie and the vampire stood outside the entrance to the zoo.
“Too many crushers,” Yoochun told his companion; we’ll be seen for sure.”
Jaejoong grinned; his face turning a strange color as he called upon his powers.
“Leave it to me.”
The vampire watched in wonder as the Genie made some strange hand gestures and mumbled a spell in his native tongue. Once more, a mist appeared from nowhere; it rolled into the zoo, swirling around the crushers concealing their view.
“It’s safe,” he told the Nosferatu. “Let’s go.”
They waltzed into the zoo; the fog hiding them from the crushers.
“What a nice night for a stroll,” Jaejoong said out loud, the vampire poking him in the ribs.
“Don’t worry; they can’t hear us. Look.”
The mist disappeared and there, before their eyes, were the policemen; prone on the ground and fast asleep.
“Impressive,” the vampire complimented his accomplice. “Now what?”
Jaejoong lit a cigarette.
“Let’s go see the tiger, shall we?”
They approached the cage; the tiger’s eyes glowing in the dark. She flashed her fangs at them and growled.
“Come girl,” the Genie enticed her. “Come.”
Yoochun stared in amazement as the female tiger approached the bars.
“Good girl. Where is your friend? Tell me all about him.”
Dumbfounded, Yoochun stood mystified as the Genie communed with the tigress.
“They call her Chandra. She’s expecting, and she’s doing quite well thanks to her friend who visits and leaves fresh meat for her.”
Yoochun shook his head in disbelief. Jaejoong was truly powerful.
“Is it a werewolf?”
Jaejoong stared into the eyes of the tigress who purred loudly.
“By Aladdin’s beard…”
Yoochun felt the hairs on the back of his neck rising.
“We’re not alone.”
The two abandoned the tigress and ducked into the darkness as a creature hovered above them; great bat-like wings jutting out of its back. Caught in it’s talon like feet was a dead body; naked and half eaten, it was a horrific site. The creature landed inside the cage and was greeted warmly by the pregnant tiger which began to feast upon the freshly killed body. The creature inhaled deeply and froze.
“Uh oh,” Jaejoong whispered. “It smells you.”
“Me? It smells me? Why doesn’t it smell you?”
“Genie’s don’t smell.”
In a move bold and brash, the Genie revealed himself; the creature immediately flying out of the cage and confronting the stranger. The beast howled and gnashed his jowls; eyes like burnished gold gleaming in the dark. The vampire joined the Djin; the creature startled; now there were two enemies he had to concentrate upon.
“Charm him,” the Genie told his companion. You can do it. Dominate him. Make him yours.”
The vampire flashed his fangs at the creature; it staggered backwards; confused as to why a being which resembled a man would have fangs like an animal. Yoochun’s eyes turned blood red; with shoulders squared; the elegant Nosferatu walked forward with determination; his sole purpose to gain control of the animal before him.
“We’re not going to hurt you. We are like you; we are different. You must trust us.”
The winged creature looked at the other “man”; his body surrounded by an eerie green glow.
By this time, those pesky monkeys were screeching and howling. Soon Jaejoong’s spell would dissipate and the crushers would awaken.
“The humans will wake up soon. This is a trap. They will hurt you. You must come with us.”
The strange animal turned and looked at his friend, the Tigress.
“Don’t worry about Chandra,” the Genie told him. “She is safe. Come now, follow us.”
From out of nowhere, the Djin plucked a magic carpet from thin air.
“Show off,” Yoochun told him as he climbed aboard the flying rug.
As it took off, the winged creature gracefully leapt in the air, soaring high above the clouds.
“I don’t like heights,” Yoochun admitted to Jaejoong.
The genie laughed, exhilarated by the wind in his face. The magic carpet headed towards Yoochun’s home, propelled by Jaejoong’s magic. The flying creature; still mesmerized by the vampire’s power, followed close behind.
“Isn’t this great?”
“I hate you, Jaejoong.”
