Here are my brief reviews of the books I've read since coming to Seattle. My tastes currently run towards science fiction, Japanese writers / books about Japan, fantasy, and kick-ass women. If you want me to expound upon any review, just ask.

While I'm on the subject... isn't this the coolest library ever? Looks like the mothership just beamed ( Read more... )

I meant "add", and Fox Woman and Skinwalker

I've already read Silver Phoenix and Coin Locker Babies though :)

I'm definitely going to have to read some of these books now... Although, interestingly, I've already read the first two on the list! I read "The Fox Woman" a while back, I think in my first year of highschool... and I believe it was the first experience I had with slash in an actual hardcopy book. It was also unexpected! But it fit in well with the world of the book, you know? ... Now I have to reread it, knowing more about Japanese culture and such...

Also, I love the Temeraire series! <3 You're absolutely right, though, this one did drag quite a bit towards the middle... "since it's basically "Australia's GONNA GET YOU!!" TRUFAX. I did enjoy the way that Novik addressed the Rankin-getting-a-new-dragon problem, and, of course, the scene towards the end where they finally find the third egg... and the anti-colonialist message is really, REALLY coming through in this book, so it'll b e interesting to see how it will be explored in the next installment (Granby in South America, anyone? :DD ).

LOL, and historically accurate slash to boot.

Yeah, Rankin's gonna have his hands full with the new one. Well, by now, Laurence has been thoroughly infected by Temeraire's notions, so we're seeing that in the book.

Ahh, I've stalled at book four of the Temeraire series.. Possibly because I read the first four in one sitting, and got a little bored of the characters. Worth it to continue, y/n?

If you like intelligent dragons as much as I do, yes, and it's nice to see someone who writes race/culture in a period piece in a way that is neither obsessively PC or unrealistic.
