When camping in bear country don't put items that smell like food in your tent. Sounds like you had an interesting trip indeed.
With my aversion to long-distance driving and fear of the outdoors, I doubt I would be doing that kind of travel myself. As for camping? I am allergic to mosquitoes, so where most people get a circumscribed little lump, my entire limb swells up as though I had elephantiasis. It is fun to watch, but I wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis.
Funny you should say that; I used to bathe in the stuff as a kid. Literally. Our school was close to a river. During the summers, those evil things would emerge in force. To avoid morphing into balloon girl every time I walked outside, I used the bath liquid in the morning (it smelled awful) and carried spray with me at all times, in case handwashing or perspiration washed the coverage away. At my last high school reunion, a classmate said she could not smell bug spray without thinking of me. Not exactly the lasting impression I was aiming for.
