I would put forward that she may be taking evidence and postulating it, much the same way I was forced to do in Japanese Linguistics. Almost every linguist works on a language that's not their own, so they have to be able to make judgements. As for gramaticality judgements in close calls, that's just a stupid thing for a non-speaker to decide.

Is this the chick in our Morphology class, or someone else?

The one I was complaining about the most is the one in our Morphology class; the other one isn't. The latter is the one that sometimes contributes to judgements. The thing is that the latter contributes when he asks the native speakers for grammaticality judgements, although doesn't so much anymore, thank goodness.
