The Remains Of The Zombies

(Backdated to the end of the infestation)

1490 Kramden Road: Late night to early morning

[ The house is a little worse for wear, and there's a sedan parked haphazardly in the driveway. But the feature that catches the eye of the passer-by is the circle of scorched earth in the front yard. It is still smoking after midnight. ]

[Tarvek knows that crater. He's got this deep, visceral sense of having been there -- about one zillionth of a second before it was a crater. Of course, he kind of missed the cratering-moment, for obvious reasons. He is impressed.]

[Then he realizes Ilsa's door is staved in, and he's not concerned with the crater, no-mo', no-mo'. He's racing in, barreling through the house, frantic, shouting her name...]

Ilsa? Iiiiiiiiiilsa! Ilsa, dammit, you'd better be alive or I am going to kill you. I swear it.

Ilsa?

[ Ilsa's voice is weak, coming from upstairs. ]

...'bibi?

[He's not sure if Egon's there, and will for the moment race past him if he's there.]

[He races up the stairs, down the hall, and crashes into her room, doing a classic "slide across the floor on both knees" number, coming to a halt at her bedside.]

Liebchen? Ilsa?

[Very fast babble in hyper Romanian, then.]

You're not supposed to get hurt, love.

Please? Are you hurt?

Ssh, 'sallright.

[ She gently puts her fingertips on his mouth. ]

Promised they wouldn't get you.

[He really has nothing to say to this. He just manages a hug as best he can on a prone body, trying not to mash his face into her boobs too obviously.]

[Crying? Probably. Not going to say so, though...]

...'m fine, 'bibi.

[ She strokes his hair, murmuring. ] Just need some rest. Next holiday isn't for a few weeks.

[ She chuckles softly ] Can't do a quick recharge just yet.

[Oooops, he's a Madboy... and it's something He Could Do To Help!]

Oooh! I could make you one! We might even be able to run it off the household circuits!

[ She chuckles, this time a little teasing. ]

Not a machine, 'bibi. But it is something you can help me with... just not until I'm able to manage a rite.

[ She frowns a little, still petting his hair. ]

Though I'll need to be careful, depending on how the pieces come back to me.

[Egon walks back into the room to the sound of engineering chatter. Perfect timing. However, he's a little surprised to see Tarvek there.]

Huh! That overnight regeneration works impressively fast.

[He brings a bowl of cool water with a washcloth in it and sets it on the bedside table.]

Run what off the household circuits?

[He's not in any mood to be territorial right now, which is probably all sorts of good. At the moment anyone who's taking good care of Ilsa is fine... and he really LIKES Egon, fellow nerd and mech-head.]

Ilsa spent too much energy removing my former body. [He scowls at her, but can't bring himself to work up too much fury. Instead he holds her hand as he clucks.] Ilsa, you must not do that again. I would have been just as dead in any case.

Anyway, Egon, I was thinking of making her a device to recharge, using the wall circuits. But she says no. [sighs] Me, I think there should be something we can do to help... you are the paranormal engineer. Have you any ideas?

[ She chuckles, with some of her former manner showing through. ]

Told you, you can help... just not mechanically. [ Her eyebrows twitch. ] 'sides, I got the mob that attacked you. I think there might have been about ten.

[Naturally, Egon is oblivious to Ilsa's suggestiveness and he goes into full-on scientist mode.]

Unfortunately, psychic channeling is powered by the same energy that powers anything else in our bodies. PKE wouldn't aid her in the way she needs and electric energy isn't the same thing. I'm afraid she's just going to have to rest.

If I'd figured out a quick, efficient way to restore human energy I'd be a billionaire by now.

[Suddenly he pauses to think.]

Hm. I'll get to work on that.

[He's amused and impressed...but, then, that crater managed to impress him already.]

You are as dangerous as a Muse, or any other great spark invention. If we were home, I would have you made one of the Smoke Knights.

But how can I help, if it's not with machines?

[ She sighs, smiling. ] Most of it is keep me from getting up for a while. I tend to get bored and get moving before I should. Though honestly, until I'm back to what I was before they brought me here, that's all I can do to repair.

[He's still basically a Nice Victorian Boy in many ways...but he's also the boy who drew girls in his notebooks, and Ilsa has brought him a long way. He leers at her, cheerfully.]

I can at least try to keep you in bed, Liebchen.

[Blushes pink. Ilsa HAS been dropping hints. He risks a wary, and slightly worried look at Egon, and back at Ilsa.]

Or...

Um...

[A bit sad and worried.]

I...

Anything you need, you will have it. Do you want us to help you down to your own room? You will be more comfortable and private, there.

[He's being noble. Ilsa is unlikely to assume he's not worried and a bit forlorn, though. She is still his Ilsa, though, and he will take care of her.]

[Egon raises his eyebrows.]

I could bring you a box of adapters to test for me. It's a long, tedious job that requires you to sit in one spot for hours at a time.
