"I don't want him tainted by your bloodlust, bastard." He bit back a whimper as the blade dug further into his skin, a thin line of blood trickling down his neck and soaking into the fabric of his cloak.

He would have died for that remark; what stayed Karel's hand was the fact that he was sure the man knew this already. What he knew of the spy didn't paint him as the cowardly sort, but he was certainly cautious. There had to be some reason he would go and make such a foolhardy statement...

"And how," the firelight danced in his eyes, making them appear brighter-- more dangerous, "How, pray tell, do you plan on preventing this...?" Karel's grin grew wider as Matthew fidgeted. "I could easily cut you down right now, after all."

"If you won't take money, take..." Matthew paused, then steeled his features. "Take me instead
