Now can name 10 types of pottery sherds in central Arizona. Aparently pit houses in Gila were dug deeper and would look like a bigger depression in the landscape. Not sure I would really get an eye for this, unless a large depression neatly surrounded by stones. Did see a ball court, had ring of stones, could see this. Pit houses have been shown..."look a depression". As long a shovel doesn't "find" anything, I would be happy. Have seen some arrowheads on Gila forest, large early quarter of 1900's road grader in middle of nowhere with juniper growing through it, mining shacks/log cabins. SmallMountain-ry found a civil war grave site of two buffalo (?) soliders (archaeologists knew of this one).
Now sitting on balcony of hotel, enjoying sunset, cranberry juice, and marigolds. The same kind of marigolds we used to have.

I miss my days in the field; middle-of-nowhere is a good place to find neat stuff, traces of past lives, a hawk feather, a pock-marked rock, old cabins wall-papered with newspapers from 80-100 years ago, etc. Plus, the opportunity to go at your own pace doing your job ... a treasure.
