OK so, was that flashback actually a flash-forward? OR...is the island time not actually the present, but is actually the PAST and that flashback was actually the present, and not the future. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH....
there's been a theory going on for a while now that the people on the island are stuck in a paradox b/c they failed to push the button. It's kinda proven b/c we keep having Desmond see different flashes of charlie's death. Meaning.. did he do this before? How come charlie never remembered Desmond from the street corner in one of his flashbacks. I think they are running a loop in time and the only solution is to keep pushing the button. From last night's episode, I think Jack figured it out that they have to go back to the island and everything Ben said was true.
According to the producers on a podcast, or maybe it was Lost: The Answers, Desmond saved the world by turning the fail-safe key. So I think that this whole time-space continuum has some other kind of play between the island and their off-island lives, one of those 'the future's not set in stone' ordeals...I have a theory in my mind but i cant quite explain it yet.
Also if you think about it, Desmond was one of a million random people on the street. Over the period of time that Charlie was on the street corner daily playing songs, what are the chances he'd remember one guy? What are that chances that you'd remember a cashier that helped you 6mo ago? Just random fate that they were on the island together.
Awesome, awesome episode. My only problem with it was Charlie's decision to close himself in the submarine pod, although I guess maybe the door can only be sealed from the inside. In the early minutes of the episode, when Sayid told Jack not to turn back no matter what, I was convinced that Jack would eventually turn back around. They surprised me.
Jack made the right choice, given the circumstances, I think. The Others have not been killers so far, only deceivers. Except for Mikhail now, I guess. Still, can't trust anything from these guys.
This finale was so much more involving and surprisingly than last year's. I had to write a paper in a metaphysics class in college on the 4-D theory of time, and I was actually trying to dig it out while I was watching the episode. I think they are doing it on the show. It involves a description of time as being "tenseless", having nothing but a continual and alterable present.
OK so at first I had a problem with Charlie dying because it seemed avoidable, but then, if it was his fate, per Desmond's vision, to die in order for the events to take place as planned, then it makes sense to me that Charlie died. Yes, he could have avoided it, but the future would not have been the same if he didn't. Think, "Back to the Future".
Re: Others - Yes, the Others have not been killers, however I guess Mikhail was a "fallen" Other at that point...And what's with him never dying??? I still want to know how he survived the invisible fence.
What is 4-D? Sounds interesting.
I thought Kate was so hot with make-up. I don't think she's hot without.

It boggles my mind.

AND...was Jack's beard real? Because I think it was fake and made from his wig in the early 90s.
ALSO...if the "flash-forward" was actually in the future, then why was Jack's dad alive?
AND...Why couldn't Charlie just have locked the door from the outside of the flood area, then lived?

I figured we'd see Walt early in season 4 but didn't expect it for the finale. How interesting.
