one thing I noticed while playing FFXIV is I take a lot of breaks, go afk at random just needing to get up and move around, even if it's to amble towards the TV to surf for a few minutes. So if you're saying something to me and I don't respond... well I could be napping on the couch. So sorry in advance.
I had a phenomenally profitable weekend. I decided to make one tool for each class this weekend, even if it was only a level 7 bronze. When I make items I usually get the mats for at least 3 just in case of blowupedness. I didn't end up failing a single one so I had a lot of tools left over.
It all sold very fast, in fact by the time I got back to my retainer after a couple hours of putzing around what was there was sold. I was worried I'd have a bunch of stuff sitting around taking up space but that didn't happen. Monday evening when I went to check he was completely empty.
What may have helped is 2 things, I got a stall for the weekend and I didn't price myself idiotically like some people do. I still have to do the math but at least 50% profit is still a stupid margin. Maybe I'm off my rocker as I did use a stupid amount of shards but being up a lot of gil seems worth it, especially when you factor in skillups.
I've seen stuff stay on retainers (my own as well) for days upon days because of two things. 1) The piece is so common that anyone with that craft can, and probably has either made it or gathered it. I don't understand why people put up copper anything honestly, it's a waste of space. or 2) they've priced themselves right out of the market. Sure I bet those uber players who are making all sorts of iron implements sell stuff... occasionally, but I've seen stuff rot on retainers for more than a week now. If they would half their prices they would probably sell 4x as much and make twice as much profit... but whatever, it's their bazaar, not mine.
I've started making a few more tools here and there with what I have. One day I'll just go on a spending spree and buy all the things I cannot make myself so that I have ample resources to create stuff™ and get rich, or at least not be as poor.
However I have run into the wall with lack of wind shards and fire crystals. I've put up buy orders for fire crystals at 2k a pop. Honestly that's not that far out of reasonable. I could probably resell them on the weekends for 3-4k. I just hope my luck with buying them holds, once I hit the iron age I'm going to go through them like candy.
So far the only reliable way I've found to get wind shards is to log for them... which gives me more mats than I can use because I'm short on wind shards. Unfortunately not many mobs drop wind stuff. Mostly bees and wisps I've found so far and they tend to be camped a fair bit because they also tend to drop lightening shards.
I've also started vendoring maple logs. I no longer get enough skill to bother making it into lumber or planks and I cannot even sell it at 450 per log so I now vendor any stacks I accumulate.
I forgot to renew my stall on Monday and some other jerk took it over. Even though there are 5 other free stalls they decided they needed that one... OK. I'm going to stay out of the stalls for now as I'm either selling raw materials or making stuff of all sorts of different types. I can probably pay fewer taxes if I move the retainer around some. Maybe I'll do 1-2 day stall rentals if inventory starts to back up.
I'm still in a hate/hate relationship with the UI. A lot of things just seem cumbersome and overwrought. Having to click through 6 screens to do leve synths is starting to wear on me. I can only hope they sreamline some of the UI down the line. The double click retainer to interact with gives me some hope.
I've been doing local leves pretty hard, mostly concentrating on CRP and BSM but dabbling in others as well. I may have to either move around more or diversify some as level 1 leves give me a pittance in xp now that I've hit 15+. Too bad level 15 ones are still really damn hard half the time and I'm not even looking at the level 20 ones till I hit 21-22ish.
My gear still sucks (other than the tools) but one reason for that is I generally don't buy anything that I cannot fix. Repair costs have started to escalate (1.5k to repair my belt... meh). The other is that I have 2 sets right now. The starter set I use for synthing and gathering and a combat set that is a mish mash of gear I've gotten from regional leves and hand me downs lol. Considering I'm carrying around 30+ pieces of gear I'm sort of out of room (yeah yeah I know) so I'm not even looking at dedicated crafting and gathering sets right now.
I've stopped wearing accessories though I keep a few on the retainer just in case. The added pain in the buttidness of getting it repaired + the minimal stat increase + bagspace means I don't use it often. I have it if things start getting much more difficult but for now I'm without pretty rings n stuff.
In all this I hit rank 15 with CRP about a week ago (ish) but I haven't found the time to do the next storyline quest. I should get to it by Sunday but no guarantees. I haven't really looked at what rank is needed for the one after that. I'm assuming it's in the 20-25 range. Which means it won't be happening for another 2-5 weeks.
when they allow more retainers I'm sure I'll get 3 more... then I won't throw away anything I could potentially use and be a ridiculous packrat. But I won't care, I'll be happy to be able to store stuff and make almost anything I could want. My only limiter then will be the amount of shards/crystals I have at any one time.
I do feel a bit rushed, this is going to be one of the busiest winters ever for me, add in some cataclysm and things look a bit daunting. Maybe that's the reason I've been spending at least 3 hours a night playing FFXIV. I have this nagging feeling I'll be lagging behind come December so I have a subconscious nagging to keep pushing forward relentlessly. Though every now and again I tell it to fuck off and I go do something else. I'm sure I'll get a good 4X fix with MOO2 now that I know I can play it.
The fact that I'm going to Victoria for 9 days without reliable internet or good computer also kind of makes me meh. I thought of buying a very good laptop that can handle FFXIV and WoW post Cataclysm (the reqs have gone up a fair bit.. hell the prepatches were 5.5gigs alone) but I am resisting heartily because a good gaming laptop is restrictively expensive for something I'll only use every blue moon.
Anywho that's my current blurb about FFXIV.
