I've been here over a week now, and so busy! I have been doing something every day. I know too many people in this small town. In a couple minutes, I'm going to call my 13-year-old friend, Asuka, and take her out for some okonomiyaki. I had a huge breakfast, though, so I don't know how much I'm going to be able to pack away.

Okonomiyaki is like a Japanese pancake that can have whatever you like (okonomi means favorites). You can get meat, cabbage, cheese, whatever packed in there. I usually get Hiroshima-yaki, which has meat, cabbage, and bean sprouts topped with egg.

I remember very fondly going to a flea market in Kyoto one afternoon and finding dozens of vendors with old kimonos for very very cheap. And the cheapest kimonos were the ones with stains on them. And if you only need scraps, then perhaps those would be an option for you by cutting out good parts for your dolls? They may sell well on the internet and you'd have some extra pocket cash.
