Hey girl! Actually, I'll be staying with him from Saturday until Thursday, and since he works a lot it would be nice to go see you. Email me your phone number and I'll give you a call when I know where I'll be.
I never report the food that I've brought back into the country, usually because it's never fresh food (always boxed or packaged) and I don't want to have to spend an hour in customs.
Yeah, I don't report things like snacks or stuff I bring with me, but I wasn't sure about the miso. But I guess since it's in a package it's not a big deal... they seem more worried about fresh vegetables and things of that nature.
No one seemed to know what miso was... I thought it was gaining popularity in America.
It didn't take me too long, luckily, but I kept thinking, "What the hell is my problem? I'm never doing this again!"
My dad always says that he noticed how rude people here in America can be when he came back. Japanese people (especially if you're in a store or something) are very polite, yes, but I think sometimes they can be TOO polite, it kinda gets in the way of things.
Oh, yes, I totally agree with you. The biggest reverse culture shock I have is when I have to transfer at Detroit or Chicago Airports. Everyone is such a DICK! Yesterday, there weren't so many people at Dallas Fortworth, and everyone there was pretty friendly. I am totally sticking with American Airlines and transfering at Dallas.
Yeah that can be true with being too polite... I used to tend to wonder what their alterior motives are. But I would rather take someone's kindness at face value than have someone being very disrespectful and yelling at me for really no reason.

But I'm generalizing. Bad.
Welcome back to this side of the Pacific.
