Twelve Years a Livejournal

Jan 01, 2016 15:37

I know I shouldn't be shocked that this thing still exists, but I am. Twelve years? This blog will be going to high school soon.

1. What did you do in 2015 that you'd never done before?

What an interesting year 2015 has been.

I've been doing a whole lot more teaching this year, the first time improv made up a sizable percentage of my yearly earnings. I directed my first play in Vancouver, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, and bookended the year in rehearsals: For Corpus Christi and Heathers: The Musical respectively. This was the first year I didn't do anything fringe related in Vancouver, which was a bit odd (and expensive!). I also had my first group retreat with Instant Theatre as well as first expirience teaching for UBCi. I also started my first improv podcast, which I'm very excited about for the new year. Good times all around.

This was a year of shitty dates. A year long dry spell, actually, so that was pretty shitty, although truth be told not entirely without and reason. Being low on money and opportunities to meet people outside of your professional life definitely contributed. I moved for the first time in my time in Vancouver, and I think very much so for the better. Now I have roommates closer to my own age and maturity level, and I think next year is just going to move up and up.

I sold a bunch of my games for the first time this year, both because I needed the cash and wanted to get my collection to a more reasonable level. Another purge is coming and I'm all ready a bit hesitant, but I know the end result will be worth it. This was a first year of some substance experiments as well, which all ended up being very pleasent, I must say. Everything in moderation, etc. etc.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

From last year:

"1. Release at least 30 SNES Chronicles Videos

2. Keep Huge Nerds Alive/Launch at least one other new podcast

3. Get out of debt/balance career goals & finances

4. Go back and attend at least two screen acting classes

5. Side splits. FOREVER! ALSO: Go to the gym at least twice a week.

6. Write the following: A new Fringe play, a new full length play and one other project so you're not a lazy ass""

How did I do? I definitely didn't get SNES Chronicles back on track, although it is being worked on, albeit slowly. My new schedule has them marked at one a month, so hopefully I'll be able to do that into the new year. Huge Nerds is still going, although is currently on a hiatus. However, I did launch a new podcast, along with another one that I should be starting sometime next month. Exciting times to be talking about stuff on the internet! I didn't get out of debt, although I did get closer and closer. Hopefully the end of the next year will be the end of debt, it's looking pretty decent.

I didn't get any acting classes done, and while that is still on the docket, I think it will be a few more months until I have the time to actually put any time in. Gym has gone up and down, and side splits are a no go. As for writing, I did finish a Fringe play and a few other projects, but no full length play, which has been a bit of a far off goal for a while. Where did I think I would have the time?

So, one, one and a half out of six? Bad record this year, although moving definitely did a lot of work to make that so.

For next year:

1. Act in at least one play

2. Finally iron out your internet release schedule/put out at least 30 things.

3. Side splits and while you're at it take a few yoga classes.

4. Downsize more of your collection: Get rid of a whole box by the end of the year.

5. Start dating again.

6. Spend more time with animals! They are great!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Alistair Cook had a kid, as did my friend Athena and my friend Luke. I'm sure there are more kids that are not coming to mind right away: Too many people who I don't live in the same city as are getting knocked up. It's easy to lose track!

4. Did anyone close to you die?

None that I can think of.

5. What countries did you visit?

Last year I didn't think I would leave Canada this year: I was right! I did go to Nanaimo (and Gabriola Island!) and Winnipeg, but that was it for me this year. I'm going to say 2017 will be my next non North America trip, let's see if I can make that happen.

6. What would you like to have in 2016 that you lacked in 2015?

Sex? Romance would be great too. Fingers crossed.

7. What date from 2015 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

Nothing truely awful or amazing this year, but I was happy for what I got. Content is good.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Making it a full year without a real job. Still working on some details, but over all I think it's pretty fucking awesome.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Dropping the ball on a freelance gig. Bad way to finish off something I genuniely enjoyed doing and was very good at.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Thank goodness, no!

11. What was the best thing you bought?

A lot of my new house setup is great. Hurray for a new living space!

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

AND THEN I STOPPED WRITING AND DIDN'T FINISH THIS YEAR.
