mac os x question

Nov 10, 2005 17:36

I've just installed a g4 cube with 10.3.9+updates.
What is the canonical way to get gcc, make, automake, autoconf, installed
on this machine?

Look around on here: http://developer.apple.com/
There should be an sdk, I know we used that site to update our dev mac mini.

There is an sdk specifically for 10.3 -- but the problem is last time I downloaded the sdk I just got gcc, and not the entire gnu toolset at once, plus a shell with the right paths for the sdk.

Didn't 10.3 come with the Developer Tools disc in box?

But yeah, you may have to sign up for an "Apple.com ID" or some such, but http://developer.apple.com/ should hook you up.

I borrowed disks one, two, and three from a friend, I don't have a box. I do have an apple ID, but Xcode didn't seem to come with the standard gnu toolset last time I checked. (nor did gcc seem to have as with it to)

did you have the developer tools in the box?

If not, you can go down to your local apple store and ask for the XCode CD. Otherwise be prepared for a hefty download on the apple website. (like 100+ MBs)

I'd go for 10.4 if you can. Though with a cube 10.4 might run a bit wonky unless you have über memory.

I don't have 10.4. XCode didn't seem to come with make, automake, etc.

borrowing media isn't quite kosher, but you know that.

do a COMPLETE Mac OS X install -- custom, and check all boxes

XTools installer, downloadable from the ADC site, with free membership.

do a COMPLETE XTools install -- custom, and check all boxes

now, you have it all.
