I just signed up for meetup.com on the recommendation of my therapist. Since I did not exactly fall back in love with NYC on my shortened trip, apparently I'm going to be in NC for a while so I really need to meet new people and make some friends here. Hahah the shitty therapist I was seeing recommended meetup.com too. I joined a hiking group but haven't gone on any hikes yet. I don't want to be the newb that doesn't know shit, so I'm trying to get in shape and go on some hikes with a friend first ( ... )

i second all these ideas but also wanted to add ive met all my friends in athens through meetup and tons of friends in ca by finding activities on craigslist

How do you find activities on Craigslist? I always wondered about that. It seems like it would be a good place to meet people, but I was never sure how to go about it.

i know people who have had success with meetup. i signed up a few years ago, but my shyness got the best of me so i never went to any events. how about a dog park? the few times i've gone people have seemed really friendly.

you know what is lame? there are no parks specifically for dogs. you have to keep a leash on your dog at all times and that is if they are even allowed. there are no dog runs or anything. most people here have big yards and i guess that's why the city doesn't feel the need to designate a doggie area. that's a good idea though; my town just blows.

well i actually can't find any meetups of any interest to me. yet. i will keep the journal abreast of the situation. :)

This might be weird since I'm a complete stranger, but I also live in Salisbury and I've stumbled across your journal a few times ( this was me a couple weeks back - I usually comment anonymously when I don't know someone). Anyway, I would say that you and I are pretty different but that we also have some things in common and I think we could at least talk. :)

Have you been to Granite Lake Park? (You mentioned Marshall's and Old Navy, and it's not far from that, so I thought maybe you've heard of it.) Anyway, I've taken my dogs there to walk around once and it's pretty nice. Maybe we could meet there sometime - do you have a dog?

I hope you don't think I'm some weirdo creeper for semi stalking your journal twice now, but you seem nice so I thought it wouldn't hurt to reach out!

i was hoping that anonymous commenter would come back around! i do not think you're a creeper at all. how nice is this... i write an entry bitching about having a difficult time meeting people here, and BAM, a cool chick from the Salisbury area pops up. ask and thou shall receive. :) i added you as a friend here; we should definitely get to know one another through our journals and talking ( ... )
