I have always disliked team sports. never really saw the point of organising events that deliberately foster aggression and competitiveness. But what do you do when a thirteen year old that never really asks for much, says "Alison you never watch me play soccer"? and if you have a good coach, it's more about that, and being a good sport, a good loser And a good winner than winning or aggression.
(i happen to Love team sports. they're so much more full of all the goos stuff than individual sports. for example, do you think lleyton hewitt would be nearly as obnoxious if he had 10 other people to look at him and go "wha?" when he was stupid?? i don't actually know that that example makes sense, but i'll let it stand =) )

My experience as a child was that team spirit was something for the good players... as a crap player, I experienced team forced tolerance, team resentment, team verbal abuse, but never team spirit! But watching my flatmates interact with their team members I am seeing something different - any your comment reinforces that.
I did have to google to find out who Lleyton hewitt was though - but yes, i take your point :)
