[Clothing] Haruhi doesn't have no sense of style, exactly, but she doesn't care enough to do more than throw on whatever's closest at hand. She hasn't been actively dressing as a boy in Somarium, so what she wears can swing between a t-shirt and boy shorts to a rather cute girlish outfit. She'll typically have pins in her (now-longer) hair to keep it back.
[Background] Haruhi was born one February 4th to Ryuji and Kotoko Fujioka. Although Kotoko was a brilliant woman and a successful lawyer, she died when Haruhi was only five, and since Ryuji had never been very good at handling money, Haruhi and her father lived a very simple life since then. Often left alone at home to do chores, Haruhi had to grow up very fast; she became very independent and very practical as a result, and was often left to think of ways to earn money (not long after Kotoko's death, Ryuuji changed his name to 'Ranka' and began to work in a male gay bar as a crossdresser, so his income is rather small).
Haruhi entered Izumino Elementary School, where she was very popular (especially with boys) and very friendly. However, because she dreams of being a lawyer like her mother, she knew she needed a stepping stone to a higher institution in high school. She applied then to the prestigious Ouran High School. Because of her impressive grades and academic record, she became the first student to receive the Ouran Scholarship on the condition that she remain at the top of her year, scoring first on midterms and exams. She discovered quickly that Ouran was a home for the extremely rich and spoiled, so she contented herself with staying quietly out of the way with her studies.
Not long after her entry into the school, Haruhi stumbled into an unused music room, where she met the Ouran Host Club and accidentally broke and $80,000 vase. Haruhi, of course, did not have anywhere near the amount of money to pay off the cost, so it was suggested she work for the club to pay them back. First this was as merely their errand-runner, but soon the club discovered Haruhi's "natural" charm and demanded she work as a host herself (since she'd gotten gum stuck in her hair the day before beginning at Ouran, she cut it all off to a boyish length, with the result that everyone but Ootori Kyouya believed she was a boy).
Haruhi was a surprising success as a host, a "natural type." She quickly learned to overlook the host club's eccentricities, handling it with an attitude of almost bored exasperation, and eventually learning to grow very close with every one of them-- especially Suoh Tamaki, the so-called "king" of the club. After recognizing her feelings for him went far beyond simple friendship, she began acting very uncharacteristically: blushing in his presence, running from him, unsure how to deal with her feelings. However, she gradually came to accept this and grew more comfortable in his presence, only to have Tamaki abruptly and unexpectedly quit the host club.
She and the other host club members, shocked and a little hurt, began investigating the reasons behind this decision. They soon learned it was due to orders from his father and grandmother, who wanted him to leave behind the silly host club to mature before he becomes the head of the influential Suoh family. Tamaki resisted even Haruhi's arguments for him to forget all that, until the day when his mother-- whom he had not seen for three years-- was set to return to France. With the help of the rest of the host club, Haruhi barged into Tamaki's house and finally persuaded him to live by emotion again. They made it to the airport in time for him to see his mother, at which point Haruhi admitted her love for him. She's taken from canon here.
[Personality] Haruhi isn't emotionless, but not much fazes her-- for example, she's probably the only girl who doesn't swoon over the antics of the host club. She's cool, calm, and practical to the extreme-- in many ways quite the opposite of her father, which, considering that he raised her, might be a little surprising (though perhaps he is the reason cross-dressing doesn't really bother her, as that's his very profession). She's not materialistic (for example, she wants a laptop, but isn't too concerned about it), and she usually just throws on whatever clothes are at hand.
Though Haruhi is very hard-working, incredibly intelligent, and usually quite observant (she's the only person who can tell apart the Hitachiin twins, even when they're trying to trick her), when it comes to romance she's completely oblivious. She doesn't really appreciate what society sees as the differences in gender, so working as a male host for pretty women is no big deal for her, even though she's not attracted to girls in the same way. She's honest (almost to the point of being rudely blunt, though she doesn't mean to be) and is charismatic when she wants to be, which makes her a hit at the host club--she's found she really does enjoy making people happy.
Haruhi's dream of becoming a lawyer doesn't stem only from her idolization of her mother. While that is definitely a factor, Haruhi herself has a strong sense of justice and a very fair way of looking at things. Her practicality plays a good hand in keeping her grounded, meaning she views things as critically and fairly as a lawyer ought, but occasionally her passion will override her common sense and lead her to yell at someone without thinking things through.
Haruhi began her time at Ouran with a serious case of "WTF" or "bored" attitude. In some ways she was lazy, almost under-reacting to everything that crossed her path (she was "desensitized to strangeness"), but her time with the Host Club began to have a definite influence on her personality. As Haruhi became more outgoing, she also became more susceptible to her emotions and believing in the weird and supernatural. When she realized she was in love with Tamaki, she began to turn into "active Haruhi", trying to do and take part in everything that she could, uncomfortable with her own unfamiliar feelings. He calmed her down a little: now, while she's not exactly lazy and does consider trying new things, "New Haruhi" doesn't jump around quite as much as "Active Haruhi" did.
After being in Somarium for a year, Haruhi's changed just a little bit more. Her relationship with Tamaki has changed her especially in regards to her astraphobia and discomfort with affectionate touching--though it's been slow, she's been growing more adjusted to both, beginning recovery from her phobia and even going so far as to take initiative in hugging and kissing herself (though rarely). She'll still call him out on being stupid or excessive, however, and this doesn't just apply to Tamaki.
Haruhi's also expanded her world in ways even further than she realised she had before arrival in Somarium. In meeting people from different worlds (most notably the Doctor, who's as far out of her normal world as anyone can get) she's really learned how to interact with others as a way even different than she did at Ouran, especially in banding together against a lot of the crazy that happens. She's learned to deal with the loss of friends and people coming and going (especially Hikaru and Kaoru, whose presences have not been constant or lengthy) and accept it as a thing of life in Somarium. Lately Haruhi has juuuust begun to learn how to open up a bit about worries and rely on people, though only in the most minimal way possible.
[Specialties/Abilities] None. Besides being a dedicated student and desensitized to being constantly surrounded by male exhibitionists, she's a normal human. Haruhi does, however, always seem to be able to see through people and any facades they might put on to others.
[Affection] Haruhi doesn't really initiate physical affection, but she won't shrug someone off for doing so. She'll probably ignore you, though.
[Fighting] Haruhi's never done martial arts, she's not trained to fight, but if she sees someone in danger she's willing to throw a few rocks or whatever needs throwing.
[Other Permissions] Pretty much anything goes, just ask if you're concerned
[Other Facts] it should be noted that Haruhi has not been living as a boy in Somarium and has let her hair grow out for the whole year she's been here, so she shouldn't be much mistaken for a boy by this point.
