Ace would always tell him when he was a child that “you win some you lose some” when he was bandaging either a hurt pride or a hurt body after Luffy had lost a game or fight. He didn’t believe it even then as a little child. He supposes that Ace can live like that because he's not a Captain, he doesn't have so many lives and dreams resting on his shoulders that somedays it feels to big for him until he looks at his hat again. Luffy can never lose some he has to win them all or else.
