Requim for a Beautiful Old Tree

The ailing big leaf maple in the front yard came down today. I am so sad to see it go.

Beautiful tree. Maples are always so beautiful. I've always felt close to the old trees wherever I'm living. Here I have huge pine and palm trees.

It was a beautiful tree. We are fortunate to have lots of big trees around, but I really miss this one.

WHYYYYYYY? I always feel bad when trees come down. Yours looks okay on the inside, what happened?

This tree is the source of contention between Dragon Neighbor Lady and me.

When we moved here, the tree had two big trunks...was twice as big. DNL didn't like it because it shaded her front yard and shed leaves. She had the half of the tree, barely in her yard, cut down. At the time she urged Nightsky and I to take down the other half and I refused.

The tree did okay for a while, but has not thrived. We started losing huge branches during storms and the leaves were not growing to full size. DNL started a campaign that the tree was not safe and I was forced to agree.

So, $1200 later, it is done. We have lots of big trees around. Nightsky points out big leaf maples are not long lived, perhaps it was time. I did not want a large branch hurting someone, either.
