sounds like a graphics thing. Not that I know how to fix it.

That's the funny thing. The drivers are all up to date. There's no errors with the grapics card when running other programs.

On my machine it switches from one resolution to another when it starts wow. If it was getting hung at that step then it would be a black screen that would have no response when you hit the any key.

I'm guessing you reinstalled right?

You're getting just a black screen when you launch the program? Is it random or constant? CoV was doing that for me, I had to get some new drivers, wasn't a big problem. Though sounds still worked for me, and I was always able to alt-tab out.

Still getting sounds... though the opening bit of music acts like its an old record with a scratch. Can't alt+tab out of it, all he can do is hard reboot.

He's using Windows? What video card? You might try some driver updates if he's still having issues. Had to do that for CoV, not that I play any more. ^_^
