In this country, aside from family and pressures, everyone nominally has a choice... although there are some disadvantages to not believing the same as the prevalent views. Since I don't automatically root for the 'winning' (e.g. largest) team, I guess I choose to have some personal disadvantages.

Oh, and God has declared SF a Rapture-free zone, for her sins, Rapturists are recommended to be east of the truss section[1] of the Bay Bridge, north of the North Tower of the Golden Gate Bridge, or south of the city and country line as marked on roads and maps. I will note that the Anchor Distillery will be operating as normally.

Nobody really knows what lies beyond death. We can pretend to know, we can take hints from our subconscious, or we can believe ancient books, but nobody nobody nobody really knows.
In the face of all this ambiguous evidence pointing to absolutely nothing, we all must make a choice that is based within our own personalities and/or ego masks. Because the choice we make on this particular issue will color and cloud our existential outlook on EVERYthing, we must be willing to examine our notions of concepts like truth, proof, and validity, and how those shape our personalities. There is no fucking proof, and nothing is valid.
Therefore, the best philosophy to carry around with you is the one that will make you the happiest.
My philosophy is one of humor. If I'm not able to laugh at this world, why would I want to live in it?

That's a very big aside. Well educated urban people are more likely to be exposed meaningfully to multiple belief systems.
