1. Balance the following equation. Prove it satisfies the law of conversation of mass mathematically by using formula masses. C3H8 + O2-> CO2 + H2O

C3H8 + (5 * O2) --> (3 * CO2) + (4 * H2O)
Do the hard math yourself, but there are 3 Cs, 8 Hs, and 10 Os on each side.

2. Balance the following equation. Prove it satisfies the law of conversation of mass mathematically by using formula masses. Fe + H2O + O2 -> Fe(OH)2

(2 * Fe) + (2 * H2O) + O2 --> (2 * Fe(OH)2)

Again, do the hard math yourself, but there are 2 Fes, 4 Hs, and 4 Os on each side.

3. Using chemical equations, describe the steps you would use to obtain lead (Pb) from galena (PbS)

No idea. Don't have my chemistry book at work. :) Good luck!

1.) C3H8 + 5O2 --> 3CO2 + 4H2O

C=8, H=8, O=10

2.) 2Fe + 2H2O + O2 --> 2Fe(OH)2

Fe=2, H=4, O=4

3.) I suspect there was a time when I would be able to answer this problem, but that time has passed. ^_~
