So she opened the door and saw him still there, ache and betrayal and regret in his eyes.
How many times do I have to try to tell you, she thought, that I'm sorry for the things I've done?
She couldn't say anything, nor could she stop her own sorrow. A hand reached for his. He squeezed in return. They stood there in silence, for neither could explain why.
