Tara watched Willow and Alex. Watched their shy glances, and covert touching. Obviously, they were boyfriend/girlfriend: you could see the depth of their feeling towards each other, despite having lost their memories.
So why did her heart leap every time Willow smiled? And why did it hurt so much whenever Alex stroked the fall of red hair?
She just knew that given a different set of circumstances, it was her face that Willow would touch, her lips that would receive such sweet attention.
Then the crystal lay in jewel-like shards under Xander’s heel.
And Tara remembered what real pain was.
