Dear Flist. I want to know how the fuck it can possibly cost $33 to ship one pair of silken men's underpants from the US to Canada. That does not include duties and taxes (which were tallied at another $31... Keep in mind said underpants are only $25 CND ( Read more... )

Did you send it ultra priority overnight or something? I recently ordered a jacket from Canada and only paid something like $25-30 for shipping to Europe (and another $25 for customs). It took a week or so to get here, but it did.

Then again, I also recently wanted to order a knitting mag from the US but they wanted $11 for shipping and that just wasn't going to happen.

No. This was just their standard international shipping. Upon seeing that cost for shipping of course I decided I'd take my business elsewhere. I mean, I can almost understand $35 for shipping for a jacket as, you know, those usually weigh more than 1 lb and have some kind of volume to them... but seriously. None of the Canadian websites I shop on gouge international purchasers that badly!

I mean, as badly as some of the American sites seem to be.

Oh the Americans are terrible about international shipping. If they do it, they usually gouge. I once bought a pack of plastic envelopes for shipping (keeps the cost down over sending stuff in a box). The envelopes cost $4.50 and the shipping was $12. I've got to see if I can get some of those in England when I'm there come to think of it.

Damn. I shipped 3 and a half pounds of candy corn to Brighton, UK, and it cost less than that.

That's utterly fucking insane.

Yeah, I know, right? I have found some that ship for less (only $19 with amazon!) but its still utterly ridiculous. How can they justify charging that much? And as much as it really irks me... I have so far been completely unsuccessful finding a website that actually ships within Canada, or said silky-drawers in the city itself.

Yeah. Wonder why it costs so much.
