a/n: inspired by
this comic by w.o.m. a slightly different take. i just found it to be so sweet and sad.
green;
taeyeon spreads out the small blanket, opens up the lunch box wrapped in her mom's (and incidentally eunsook's) favorite handkerchief, and waits on the rooftop quietly.
silently,
patiently,
waiting.
eunsook is late, ten minutes late, like always, but taeyeon doesn't really mind because she knows that eunsook has other things to take care of before coming up to eat lunch. talking to teachers regarding student council. meeting up with other students to make sure they do their after school cleaning duties. polishing up her english for the quiz next period.
kissing jonghee secretly in the hallway before splitting ways with a promise of "see you soon."
yes, eunsook has priorities bigger than taeyeon.
and taeyeon accepts it, kind of. taeyeon understands that eunsook is a good student, sure, that eunsook is a good girlfriend, sort of.
-no, not really.
but taeyeon can't change anything, because taeyeon is taeyeon and taeyeon is the small wallflower that only shines when under eunsook's light, so she doesn't want to risk it. she doesn't want to wilt, alone, without her source of energy, her life.
her love.
so taeyeon just simply smiles and says "it's all right, the croquettes are getting cold" as eunsook tries to straighten out her uniform because she is a good friend, and everyone needs a good friend.
today is no different. today is the same. today, taeyeon sits under the cold sun and tilts her head left and right with her eyes on the closed door as big fluffy clouds roll on by over her head. just when she realizes how lonely she is, she sees the rusty door hesitantly crack open, and eunsook's small head tentatively pop out, her signature blue ribbon first, and then the beautiful cascading river of black. the river of black that washes taeyeon right off her feet within seconds, every single time.
as taeyeon fiddles with her skirt and watches eunsook shuffle her feet against the rough cement of the floor, she realizes that today is very different. she worries her bottom lip as the older girl sits down next to her, small head down and facing the ground.
taeyeon breathes in softly.
"unni?"
it only takes those two hushed syllables for eunsook to break down and cry impatient, heavy tears and sob muffled words through her clenched teeth. she doesn't pick up her head, but taeyeon can feel the pain written in her furrowed brows and red cheeks in her own heart.
"unni," taeyeon repeats, rubs a calming hand up and down the older girl's spine, "it's okay."
eunsook looks up and her bangs stick to the wet sides of her face, to her bottom lip as she quivers and cries louder, "no, no it's not."
taeyeon clenches her fist in her skirt. her fingers run distractedly through eunsook's soft hair because she knows just how much it calms her, and she knows it's the only way to keep her fingers from rubbing the girl's face and bringing it close to kiss the tears away. taeyeon feels her own eyes sting, in anger, frustration, (relief), desperation, but eunsook is crying enough tears for the both of them, so she holds them in.
"it's all right," the younger girl whispers and slowly, carefully places her lips on the top of eunsook's forehead. no where lower. "it's okay, eunsook unni." taeyeon wraps both arms around eunsook's frame which is smaller and weaker than usual and sighs into her hair. she feels eunsook shaking her head in disagreement, but the tears have stopped and so has her crying.
after what feels like hours taeyeon shifts a bit closer to eunsook, who folds her body to allow the change.
"you're so kind, taeyeon," eunsook whispers into taeyeon's shoulder. "you're so kind."
the younger girl laughs wryly. because eunsook doesn't know that there's a glimmer of happiness shining through the cracks of taeyeon's heart, doesn't know how much the girl wants to kiss eunsook's plump lips and her worries away and make her forget of jonghee's glossed lips, doesn't know how much she wants to strip eunsook of everything that had been touched by others and cover her with herself and only herself.
but she doesn't
"the croquettes are getting cold."
because she's a good friend, and everyone needs a good friend.
end.
a/n: not quite sure why this is sad ;;;; but yeah i...really wanted to write a short eunsook/taeyeon piece haha. hope you enjoyed :)
