So, I am doing a recital in April and I need some suggestions for rep.
It is a joint recital with another soprano. We are doing four duets and each doing four solo pieces. The theme is Dueling Divas. The idea is to go back and forth attempting to one up each other through the entire recital and the duets we are doing will reflect that. (We are ( Read more... )

You just mentioned three pieces I did at my own recital last February! Do you know "Gretchen am Spinnrade" by Schubert? It's my favorite piece of all time and incredible for lyric sopranos.

well to compete with Glitter- there is always art is calling for me

gretchen is a great piece, but I wouldnt do gretchen only because you are doing tu che di gel. If I were you I'd have a fluff piece, a serious (tu che di gel) and two somewhere in the middle for balance.

and now some rambling....
You could look at hoiby's "the serpant" - there are runs, but they arent fast runs, should be rather nice for you.
Heggie's "animal passion" is a fun one,
"i dreamt i dwealt" from The bohemian girl (you cna find the music free online somewhere)
Dove Sono instead of Porgi Amor,
Aint it a pretty night (susannah - Maybe, this is sort of a big sing so be careful)
Quando m'en vo should be really nice in your voice - and a great contrast to her arias...

Thank you for the suggestions. I had thought about doing Art is Calling for me, but that was my "signature" competition piece when I was a senior in high school. But, it seems to be the only thing I can come up with to compete with Glitter.

I was considering the Dove Sono and my teacher suggested it (months back before I moved), but I am not sure.

The Quando M'en Vo is on the program, we are doing a very cheesy three sopranos type duet of it, for comedic purposes, otherwise I would have already jumped on it.

The rest I will definitely look up. Thank you!

Oh, and I also thought of This Place is Mine from Phantom if anyone has an opinion on that.
