Could you recommend me a piece?

I'm planning to go back to singing lessons soon, but I have no idea what to bring to the teacher first. I can go up to D flat over soprano high C, but I' more comfortable in lower areas.

Would a musical song do? Or should I risk an aria? I have learnt the technique earlier, but I left out years. I'm 25 now.

Italian art songs should be a good place to start if you haven't sung in a while.

How long have you been taking singing lessons? And it also depends what kind of technique you've learned - operatic technique is much much different from musicals.

I've had about 8 years hiatus. The technique still goes.

Yes, this is my problem, I can do On My Own as it should be done, but that's a very different style. And with operatic technique it sounds bad.

I'm trying to learn Senta's ballad, mainly because the range is comfortable, but it's maybe weird to bring to a teacher at first...

Somehow I feel more comfortable with German style than with Italian, despite having no problem with Italian pronunciation.

And I can only learn after hearing by now (notes help, but not enough).

How long have you been away from lessons? And why not prepare two songs, one musical piece and one aria piece, just in case? If it turns out that you're not quite getting the aria down after being away from lessons for so long, you still have a piece that can help you out. :)

I would bring something you think showcases your abilities. A good teacher will be able to hear any problems in your voice right away. After that, they will most likely recommend pieces to help strengthen your weak spots.
