I know I'm a nasty snarky bitch, but I don't care... Follie! Follie! is hte beginning of the recit connecting Ah Fors'e' Lui and Sempre Libera. Follie is not an aria.

However, La Follie is a charachter is Rameau's Platee - and you'd probably really love her arias. Light, pretty and full of fun. Total mockery of the baroque cadenza in there and the opertunity to throw in some high d's.

Eh, Sempre Libera is what I meant, but the display on my iPod says Follie when Sempre Libera is playing. Oops.

why don't you like Madame Butterfly? I love playing her, though partly because I'm half asian.

I've performed Quando M'en vo recently as well! :D Indeed, it's really fun playing a self-absorbed woman.

I don't like the story. And I can't fully explain why, I've just never liked it all that much. Butterfly was the first opera I ever saw, for my 17th birthday, and I was like "eh, it was cool, but the opera itself was just ok". A couple of months later, I went to see Carmen and was like OMG BEST THING EVERRRRR.

Also, having to do the humming chorus makes me go blargh. Stupid Puccini, making sopranos hum a b-flat! (I adore Puccini, though. Really. See under favorite opera where it says Turandot, and of course I love Boheme.)

I don't think Musetta is self-absorbed. I mean, yes, she is in that moment, kind of--but she's mostly acting that way because she loves Marcello and wants to get him back (okay, yes, that is self-absorbed behavior). But I think to call her entirely self-absorbed isn't quite right. I'm always drawn to the moment in Act IV when she sells her earrings to pay for medicine for Mimi, for all the good it does.
