Michael Vaughn - Character Discussion

Sorry if I rambled or if this is out there. Long day, 6 mile hike and fun with waterfalls make my brain a little mushy. I'm so impressed I got it done on time! When we first met Michael Vaughn he was a seemingly mild mannered CIA agent dealing with a possibly crazy woman with bozo colored hair. By the end of the pilot, in which Vaughn was only in ( Read more... )

I really liked Vaughn up until Sark appeared he became trapped in his marriage to Lauren. Of course we all hated that part of the story, he seemed helpless.

I think Vaughn is the most normal character there, haha. He tried to balance things as they came and made mistakes, of course, he had a lot to handle. Getting your brain to work in sync with your heart is never easy, and he manages to make it work... eventually.

Mmm. Sark.

Yeah it was hard to keep the love when he was so wishy washy in season 3 but for me I think it was easier because I was a late commer to the Alias game. And I watched the whole season in one sitting.

He is pretty normal; but I also think he's underappreciate as a character. He's not just eye candy and he's not just the good guy. He's both those things but not JUST those things ya know?

For some reason, I always liked Angry!Vaughn, but I think what I liked most was that as vengeful as he got, his love for Sydney kept him in check - and while he could have tortured and killed Lauren out of hate, he instead killed her to protect Sydney in Palermo. My other favorite Angry!Vaughn moment was in season four when he beat on that guy Roberts for using his father against him, because in a way he was fighting to defend what he knew in his heart to be true, that his father was an honorable agent and a good man. I think what I appreciated most about Vaughn as a character was that he did have that darker side, it gave him dimension, but it wasn't something he let control him. He was just a relatively regular guy and, I think at least, he played a small part in helping Syd maintain a "normal life" even if just by taking her to hockey games and teaching her to play. Oh and saving her life on a few occasions, haha.

And gosh this wasn't supposed to be such an epic comment!

Heh. Season 4 was awesome for Angry!Vaughn moments. That dark side of him was so awesome and not to mention wicked hot.

I loved when he was working with that organization; "Consider this the second time you've been rejected by the CIA." That was so perfect.

And I forgot to mention how many halarious crazy oneliners that were funny. If you go back and look, he gets these really funny oneliners throughout the series

Love it! Oh Vaughn. Seriously, JJ was SO mean with the way he ended season four and then playing tug of war with Vaughn in the premiere of Season 5. But I loved him for giving Vaughn back to us. (though I have to admit I had a few minutes of worry that he was going to take Will as payment for returning Vaughn...but luckily JJ was smarter than that)

JJ is mean that way. I was upset how little Vaughn in Season 5 there was but in the end it worked. Which ya know, gotta love JJ.

Yeah. I'm more of a Vaughn gal than Will, but it would have been a mistake to take him from Syd after having 'taken' Vaughn. It really killed that Syd couldn't tell Will or Weiss that Vaughn was alive either. That just burned.
