2x05 "The Indicator"
(aka The one with the puzzle, the wine glass and the project Christmas)
At Irina's hearing, Syd explains how she tried to blow them up. She visits Mom's empty cell afterwards and finds Irina's earrings. Yes, the 'truth takes time' earrings but -shh- you're not supposed to know that yet. Jack arrives and Syd apologizes for not believing him. Jack feels a little bit guilty but still doesn't change his expression (duh!).
In Vienna, a random guy driving a very nice Mercedes was killed. At the SD-6 briefing, Sloane explains the event and orders Syd to go on another mission and take pics of the next gen weapons in a basement in Budapest.
When Syd and Vaughn meet to arrange countermission, Vaughn tells her he has doubts about Jack setting Irina up. He even tells her Jack did it before but Syd doesn't believe him and pouts.
Francie's finally opening the restaurant. Syd arrives at the opening party and has 2 full minutes of normal life. She hugs Fran and dances with Will to Thickie's "When I get you alone". But oy, Jack crashes the party, waves at Francie and gives a meaningful look to Syd who follows him outside. After giving her instructions for her next mission in Budapest, he also adds that Irina will probably get death penalty.
Vaughn snoops around and finds the guy who was hired by Jack to set Irina up. Vaughn has proof now but kinda scared of Syd's reaction.
At SD-6, Marshall presents the lip-gloss/spy-ejector-camera duo thingy that syd will be sporting on her mission.
We're in Budapest! Syd's wearing a short blue wig and fires little cameras in the ceiling tiles from the lip gloss. Dixon monitors the cameras, while Jack and Vaughn are also listening on the other line. Sydney finds the room with the next gen weapons and sees... 6 year old kids training to be American spies.
Meanwhile, Sloane confesses to Jack that Emily might still be alive and that he might lose his membership in the Alliance. Jack pretends he cares.
Jack realizes Vaughn has a proof about his setup but Syd arrives in time to prevent the confrontation. Afterwards Jack tells Vaughn he's not ashamed of what he did because it was all for Syd.
At Sloane's house, Nekkid!Sloane (EEK!) is getting out of the shower when he sees a glass of red wine in the bathroom. Oy! Later he finds out that the wine in the bathroom glass was laced with an antidote to a drug that causes heart attacks.
In Buenos Aires, Syd catches the guy who trains little spies but also finds a familiar puzzle. She goes under hypnosis to find out why the puzzle looks so familiar.
We see little Syd hearing Jack talking about taking care of her for Christmas. Little Syd manages to solve the puzzle and she also knows how to use a gun! In the end, we see that her teacher was actually Jack.
Syd meets Jack outside in the rain. She tells him she knows everything about "Project Christmas" and that she'll never forgive him for taking away her choices in life and forcing her to become a spy. As Joni Mitchell's "River" plays, Syd walks away in the rain, leaving Jack alone. She goes to Vaughn, all wet and depressed and Vaughn gives her a hug. Aw.
