I'm at home, having spent a lovely evening with my parents, my mum's long-lost cousin, and his wife. Good food and chat and peacefulness.

My bed here feels spectacularly comfortable. I am even more strongly inclined to buy a new mattress for my room in the flat now...

Maybe ask your landlord if they'd put some money in for a new mattress if you plan to leave it when you move on?

That is one option. But obviously the downside is that I lose whatever I put in. They might buy a new one outright if I can convince them that the existing one is completely shot (which it is)...
