I wish this training was a part of every schools curriculum. There are programs here in Illinois about suicide prevention and that is a start getting people to talk but it is not enough
This is one issue I really want to focus on in the future. When I went to school there was next to nothing, just a tiny little bit of coverage on eating disorders, mainly thru after school special videos.
the sad part is that most of us know nothing about the mentally ill except for the low functioning visible ones scare us and it's assumed that they are the norm. Last year in Illinois they launched the Say it out loud campaign for mental health awareness with lots of bill boards, psa spots, t-shirts and school campaigns as I said its a start but I would love to see mental health viewed as seriously as physical health in our school system. oh wait I would love for physical health to be taken seriously as well.
You're awesome, and I suppose we both just have to keep fighting the good fight. I always feel like I could be doing more though, but once I go back to school and -eventually- get my Doctorate in Psychology/Sociology, then I'll have more leverage for all sorts of causes that are important to me.
