Sorry that your ultimate dream will be postponed, but some bay area living might be nice for a while. And HOORAY for getting the **** out of Santa Cruz (that town is a disease, I swear). I've been up and down the peninsula for the past 4 years now - living everywhere from Daly City to Redwood City to up in the mountains of Woodside. I live in Millbrae now (which I am REALLY happy with!) and I commute into downtown SF every day for work. I would NEVER live in SF city proper myself (for a variety of reasons) and find that the commute really isn't so bad. I take BART from Daly City (though there is a Millbrae station too). I get 20 minutes of book reading time every morning and evening - a nice way to start and end the day I think. Oakland has it's perks, but the EB still frightens lil' ol' me. I'd hate to have to cross the bay every day. Is Oaktown set in stone? Might you want to consider the peninsula towns? San Bruno? Millbrae? Really nice and safe, reasonable rent, and EZ time into the city. Good Luck - and let me know ( ... )

I'll have to check those places out.
My boyfriend is super picky when it comes to where to live.
(Redheads!)
I'm pretty flexible as long as its away from here!

Oh, and we will most definitely have to go for drinks!

Oaktown has it's nice areas, although those are usually a bit more pricey and up in the hills. I'm not sure what you do for a living or what job you're looking into, but I've lived all over the bay and as far as I'm concerned, there are few reasons to go into the City at all.

Good places to live as well as decent jobs can be found in the areas around Walnut Creek, San Ramon, Dublin/Pleasanton. I lived in Dublin and worked in Pleasanton and let me tell you ... the commute was GREAT! 10 min if I got stuck at lights.

BART kicks ass and if you find a place near one of the stations, you are totally set. just maybe get a bike if anything.

I didn't know you had lived up here.
I had assumed you were still in San Diego area.
It's crazy how people migrate all over this state!

actually, I'm back in SD. but I grew up in the bay and recently moved back for a few years while I went to art school. I really like it up there.
