Very bad VA Marriage amendment.

Ok, so I'm sure at least some of you know that there is a "protection of marriage" amendment on the VA ballot for November.

However, there are a few things that you might not know. For example, VA state law already prohibits same-sex marriage and civil unions. (Which sucks.) The full text is as follows:

"§20-45.2 Marriage between persons of same sex.

I think the reason the conservative folks want to be so redundant is because they're scared of "activist judges" applying legal concepts of equality and striking down legislative acts that ban same-sex marriage, so they need to have a constitutional amendment so that the courts have their hands tied.

Either way, yeah, pretty damn sucky.
