I need to know where to send hatemail to Andrew Lloyd Webber and tell him to read a fucking book and get over himself.

Is this going to be a rant post?
Why yes, now that you mention it... )

Yes, yes thank you. I'm so infuriated with ALW for giving into the wanky fan demand of the E/C fans and their shitty evil Raoul and St. Erik fics. Raoul is written as the hero of that musical and there's no getting around it. It's his courage and his love of Christine that saves the day. Not to mention Christine views Erik as almost a father figure, so effing gross, thanks.

I hope this musical bombs and bombs HARD.

I love you SO MUCH for this comment. I think it's my favourtie comment I've ever had on LJ. Webber is a total MORON if thinks that this is a good idea. you know that he'd had the whole musical score installed into his piano but his cat peed on it and broke it so he had to re-write it? You'd think he'd take that as a sign. :|
Fanwank indeed. If Raoul hand't been there to save the day, who knows how the story may have ended...thank goodness we will never know. (although it may have involved the Phantom killing most france..)

Hahaha! And LOL. Yeah I think that would be a sign.

Erik is a fascinating and tragic character, but that doesn't mean he's good for Christine. I don't mind if people ship it of course, but it's not fluffy bunnies and it certainly shouldn't be in actual canon. It's REALLY twisted and screwed up. Erik is a murderer, and he's murdered ruthlessly. I don't get in what universe this makes him a better match for Christine than Raoul, who have a really sweet and genuine love story. Raoul was never shown as anything but good for her, and he was always shown as courageous, not cowardly and foppish.

Oh, I think that Erik is a brilliant character! His madness and obsession is enchanting in it's own way, and in some cases, justified. That's why I LOVE the Lon Chaney movie, I think he played the Phantom perfectly! But still, why can't people see that he's, bottom line, a nutcase? I mean crazy doesn;t do him justice! The bloke sleeps in a coffin and has a robot that looks like the girl whome he seduced by making her think that he was the ghost of her father!

Whilst Raoul...a useless drunk my ass. I even gave him and Christine a mention on my honorable mentions list for my top 7 OTP's meme. Genuine love story is the perfect way to describe them. Thank you so much for understanding haro! xx

Okay, I was always one for liking Eric more than Raoul. BUT, I was very happy with the ending of Phantom of the Opera, in both the musical and the book. Though I loved Eric the character much better than Raoul the character (come on, a crazy murderer is so much more interesting than the all around good guy) I always knew that it was right for Christine to go with Raoul. I mean, if I was in her place I definately would! (Though yes, I will admit to reading E/C fanfiction. And even writing it--though at the end she goes back to Raoul. 'Cause lets be realistic here, Eric is a dangerous psychopath.)

This whole thing pisses me off. Gaston Leroux book was just so awesome and the ending was heartwrenching and perfect. And now Webber is trying to ruin that by making a sequel based off of a cheesey, badly written paperback novel. (Yup. I've read what this is based off of. Terrible, terrible book.) It makes me sick.

*grumbles and curses*

Oh! And in the book, Raoul was still a good character, and Christine still doesn't go back to Eric. ( ... )

I totally understand, because really it's not at all hard to see why Erik is such a strange and wonderful character. But like you said, Gaston Leroux knew what he was doing when he wrote the book, that's why it's still selling and why more people know that story, NOT the one this will be based off of.

The fact that Webber would turn Raoul into a drunken loser, is not only disrespectful to Leroux and his characters, but to every person who's ever played Raoul. heh, and that list includes non other than our very own John Barrowman. *sigh* like haro said, I really hope this flops, bad.
