FEEL LIKE A CRIPPLED CROW

Jan 30, 2008 22:29

Name: Jyumonji Kazuki
Race/Ethnicity: Nagual/Mexican-Japanese
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Appearance:
Jyumonji has bright blonde hair and it's styled very short in the back but longer in the front, all of it sticks upwards save for that one rebellious strand that arches over his forehead. He has brown eyes that are usually narrowed in thought or open large in outrage and surprise. His skin is a little paler than most, and he looks positively ghost-like when standing next to his best friend. Still, it has a healthy amount of peach in it and is almost entirely unmarked except for the cross-shaped scar on his right cheek. Jyumonji's body has a fair amount of muscle on it and he clocks in at an average height and weight for a human his age would.

Clothing is usually pretty basic stuff consisting of pants; button up shirts, hoodies, and a variety of other apparel depending on what looked decent when he last went shopping. Jyumonji really does not have a flair for fashion, but he also doesn't seem to be color blind so he tends to blend into the crowd. He doesn't like the traditional outfits that many people have taken a liking to lately and wouldn't be caught dead in the crap the citizens of Allupato wear.

As he is a Nagual and his bond-animal is a Harris' Hawks, he can turn into one at will. Harris' Hawks are not very large birds by nature, but being a nagual Jyumonji is at least double the size of a normal hawk. His feathers are mostly a dark brown in color but certain parts on his wings and belly are a lighter shade. Jyumonji's tail is distinctive form other hawks in that it's black with white tips, which makes him easy to pick out in a crowd of other birds. He has big yellow eyes, an exceptionally sharp beak, and talons that could easily rip into a nice, soft bunny.

Personality:
Jyumonji doesn't seem to be all that friendly; in fact he comes off as nothing less than a punk to most people. He's rude and has a pretty short temper which leads to the majority of his exchanges with others aggressive and short. He's not the kind to take crap from others and he makes that abundantly clear when you mess with him. You don't like his hair? Oh well. Even if you beat the tar out of him he's not going to back down, and his tenacity is one of the many reasons people don't like him. He pushes around people who are smaller and weaker than he is to do his bidding, and he has no conflicts of conscience when it comes to ganging up on some schmuck to beat the hell out of him. He doesn't fight fair, and he certainly doesn't go by any sort of code of honor.

The only people he frequently acts civil towards are his friends, and towards them he couldn't be more different. While he's still a dick and has a crude attitude he does like to joke around and have fun with them. He might yell and argue with his friends but it's only because they're being stupid and he likes them anyway. He bonds with punches and angry yelling and lots and lots of swearing. Jyumonji cares about his friends a lot though, and even if he expresses it mostly in punches it's still a lot nicer than anything he does to other people.

Jyumonji's pretty smart for a hawk Nagual, which leads to him often feeling a little exasperated with his fellow species. He likes to plan out things and think critically about a situation before he takes action, and it drives him a little nuts whenever people around him just run into things. He sets goals for himself, and often his friends, and then does everything he can to achieve that goal. Despite constant proof of the contrary, Jyumonji frequently assumes that other people are thinking about things in a similar fashion that he is, and is typically dumbfounded when he realizes that they aren't. Usually this leads to a period of time where he seems to be in despair and disbelief about the situation, but he usually quickly recovers.

Despite all this problem solving and critical thinking, Jyumonji can have lapses of judgment that mostly result from the fact he's bonded to a bird. He has some issues seeing things from a human perspective on occasion, which can make him come off sounding strange to them. His ideas and actions make sense to him but they might not make a lot of sense to anyone who isn't a Harris' Hawk. Jyumonji also has an issue with being left alone for long periods of time, as birds are highly social creatures and his particular species is almost always in the company of another hawk, so extended alone time can lead to bouts of depression. He can also get territorially stupid on occasion; if you were to pick on one of his friends or to encroach on an area that he thought of as 'his', he would be quick to beat the hell out of you for your error.

His friends happen to be a very touchy subject when it comes to Jyumonji. The few [one?] that he has are extremely valued by him, and he won't tolerate people belittling them. Jyumonji finds it ridiculously offensive if you suggest that they're idiots and the quickest way onto his shit-list is to somehow insinuate that they aren't worth the time of day. Despite his bold claims and him insistence that he isn't affected by such negative words, he does try his best to encourage his friends to do better for themselves. Jyumonji knows, without a shred of doubt, that they could accomplish all sorts of things if they just tried, a fact that leads to frustration when they seem simply content to continue their lives as-is without any thought of improvement. He doesn't like to see his friends wasting their lives and potential just because they're too lazy to put forth some effort. He applies this same sort of logic to himself in that Jyumonji refuses to let himself waste his own life, and he's going to drag everyone with him kicking and screaming if he has to.

Abilities/Weaponry:
Jyumonji is a Nagual, which is an ancient Aztec spirit that is mostly a human except for the fact they can bond with animals. What animal they bond with depends on the day they were born, and they usually get the traits of that species along with the ability to change into that animal. Jyumonji was born on the day of the hawk, and his patron animal is a Harris' Hawk. He can will himself into one at any time, and can communicate with other hawks as easily as he could speak to another human.

Since Jyumonji is bonded, his vision is amazing compared to a humans. He can see for long distances in great detail and his vision at night is just about as good as it is during the day. His sense of hearing, too, is better than your average humans.

His muscles do allow him to beat the crap out of most people, provided they aren't super strong. He is prone to getting into random brawls and his fighting 'style' mostly consists of street moves he's picked up.

Weaknesses:
Jyumonji has some of the bad habits of birds which means if you leave him alone for an extended period of time he gets depressed. This depression will last until someone pays attention to him, and if it goes on for too long he will actually start to pull his own feathers out, or rip out his own hair if he's a human at the time. The stress and anxiety of being alone is impossible for him to logically deal with, so his natural instinct is to pry feathers [or hair] from his skin until the missing person returns. This can inhibit his ability to fly, which is a major problem, and generally hurts a great deal.

He can't take extremely cold weather due to being a species of bird native to Mexico, and he gets very sluggish and groggy in freezing temperatures. While it won't kill him due to the fact he's still a warm-blooded human, he is pretty useless in cold weather.

Another downside of being a hawk is he's easily distracted. Shiny objects are enough to catch his eye and entrance him for short periods of time, and he could spend all day gawking at a jewelry store if people would let him. Mirrors also can capture Jyumonji's attention as he lacks the ability to understand that the person in the mirror is him, despite the logical human part of him insisting otherwise. He will treat his own reflection as if it were another person and generally be threatened by the presence of the 'other hawk' up to outright attacking the mirror. He also has a problem with glass doors and windows, as he can't seem to tell they're even there. This leads to hilarity when he outright walks right into a door.

Since Jyumonji is in Italy, a long way from Mexico, he is pretty homesick and his powers are weaker than they would be. He takes longer to change into a hawk and his 'above-average senses' are not quite what they would be if he were in Mexico.

Also, if someone were to capture hakws and actually physically abuse them in front of Jyumonji it would be just as good as hurting him. He can't explain why, but that sort of stress pretty much makes him useless.

History:
Jyumonji was born in Mexico to his native mother and his Japanese father, and he was born on the day of the hawk. Though neither his mother nor his father knew anything about it, Jyumonji's supernatural powers had bound him to hawks and he became like one himself. His mother didn't really understand it when Jyumonji's hair started to grow in along with the occasional feather or the way he would randomly squawk at her, but she loved him all the same. Jyumonji's father, on the other hand, found these strange things disturbing and grew distant towards his son to avoid his shame.

When Jyumonji was five, his mother took him to one of old wisened women who lived on the outskirts of the city to get information on what was wrong with him. She had been scared to take him to the doctor as she feared they would take him to do experiments on him, and her family had always had a strong spiritual background. The wise woman explained what had happened and that her son had the powers of a Nagual. This pretty much explained it all for her, and she was happy to hear nothing was wrong with her son. She took him home and told her husband what she'd learned, expecting him to be thrilled that their son was perfectly healthy.

Naturally, the man wasn't. He also wasn't happy that his wife had taken their son off to such a place, and it seemed this was the final straw on their lousy marriage. He divorced her only a month later and won full custody of Jyumonji due to mostly financial reasons. Jyumonji's father received a job offer in Italy, and they left immediately for it. He never got to say goodbye to his mother. They settled in one of the bigger cities in Northern Italy and Jyumonji hated it there. He frequently sent letters to his mother and didn't get along with anyone in his school. Frequently he got beat up due to his strange background, even stranger mannerisms, and, of course, for his blonde hair.

One day was particularly bad and Jyumonji was black and blue, bleeding all over the sidewalk until someone saved him. He was surprised to see a boy about his age with a bat and extremely tan skin who had just taken care of all the thugs. After a small exchange they went off together to kick more ass and take more names and Jyumonji wasn't stupid enough to say no to someone with a bat who had just taken out an entire mob of guys on his own.

Kuroki, as he found out he was called, became his best friend and the two were hard to separate. After a month of knowing each other, Jyumonji told Kuroki about his weird powers since he felt bad for not letting Kuroki know the whole truth. He made Kuroki swear not to tell anyone else though, and was surprised when Kuroki still wanted to be his friend after it. Things had gone really well, and Jyumonji thought things really couldn't have been better.

Until summer ended, of course, and Kuroki had to go back to Japan, his vacation over. After he left, Jyumonji really wasn't sure what to do with himself. He went through a period of depression made only worse by the approaching cold months. It all changed, though, when Jyumonji got a letter in the mail from Kuroki whose parents managed to get Jyumonji's address before they left. It cheered him up that not only did he have a way to keep in contact with his best friend, but Kuroki also informed him that they'd be coming back next summer.

This continued for some years with Kuorki's family coming to Italy every summer for vacation and the two boys being practically attached at the hip during Kuroki's time there. One year, however, something strange happened. He wasn't sure what but suddenly Kuroki was gone and his family didn't know where he'd gone to. Jyumonji went off to find him since Kuroki really was just a human on legs and couldn't have gotten too far.

He ended up finding the idiot in Allupato and apparently now Kuroki was a wereshark and he'd ran away from his family to keep them from finding out. He insisted on not leaving Allupato, so Jyumonji decided to stay with him. It wasn't like he wanted to return to his jackass of a father anyway.
