I woke up to find my armor to now be green and my helmet was full of shamrocks.....

Is this a normal thing to happen during this paticular holiday?

I do not believe it is! Something must be awry! Poor Mr. Skellington, he does try so hard, but things seem to go a bit amiss each holiday (though it certainly is not his fault!)
