Aren't caucuses in and of themselves pretty elitist? There are a lot of people who aren't going to be able to take part for a lot of reasons, I would think.

I am being such a contrarian lately.

It's true that it's not the best method to get people to get out the vote since absentee ballots aren't allowed, but that's why my campaign is offering rides to people who want to caucus (and it's not just for my candidate's supporters, either).

But the teachers' union is being alarmist and claiming that hotel workers would have this gigantic voting bloc because of their numbers. The thing is that each at-large site is very localized (in each hotel) and the delegates are based on the people who caucus at each site not just hotel workers in general ( ... )

I should clarify:
They also happen to think that because of that, hotel workers (who have to work on Saturday) shouldn't be allowed to caucus at the at-large precincts.

And to answer your question, setting the Nevada primary on Jan. 19th as a caucus was approved by our governor, Jim Gibbons, who happens to be a Republican. So we're just working with what was set up.
