this january, it will be 5 years since my great aunt passed away. from the way it sounds, she was to me what your grandmother was to you. she lived with us for only the last year or so of her life, but was around constantly, to the point where i would say she was one of my best friends growing up. for that year, she had my bedroom, and i slept on the couch every night. she wasn't in a nursing home at all (we had hospice care), so when she passed on, we were all there, and i was actually holding her hand.

death is never an easy thing, but cherish what you had and know that those memories and your relationship never die.

if you need to talk, i'm more than willing to listen and, because of my similar experience, could be a good sounding board.

watching someone take their dying breath and feeling the warmth leaving their body is something you never forget....
