hmmm, that's a tough one. if your car doesn't have any other problems and time is a factor I'd prolly just get it fixed. you might be able to find a decent car for under 2k but then you have to go through the hastle of getting it registered and all that crap, plus it may have some hidden problems that you will have to deal with.
hahahahha, gayrocity! how would they total out your car, there is only damage to one corner (?) why dont you just bring it to brian and have him fix it for the 1700?
oh, also, i dont know if your car turned into a piece of shit, but i remember it being a pretty good buy (except for the odometer! hah)... not sure if you could get a decent car for under 2k unless you search for like 56 months and find some old person to buy it from. :/
brian kinda half-offered to fix it for me, but i know he really doesn't want to and it would end up taking 3 months to get done. plus i would have to keep going back and forth to clearwater.
they would just say the value of the car is less than the cost it is to fix it. That happened to me before, and they said the cost was only $100 more to fix the car than it was worth. Totally lame.
ouch done this dance before.... oh man.. oh man..gravetoraveMay 3 2005, 08:41:58 UTC
I know it would be a pain in the ass to look for a new car.... BUT
I think you can upgrade a little with 2 grand.
It's going to take a while to fix anyway.
Scan Autotrader and see what you come up with.
Also option number three, small personal loan from your bank matching the 2k.
This would equal a pretty small payment over say 12 or 24 months.
That will, provided you pay on schedules help improve your credit and give you a little more head room on the car you can choose.
Hidden problems can happen with cheap used cars, so go with mileage and leave taste behind in exchange for something steady. No shame in rocking the 84 tercel if you have to, hell there is a grown man at work with two kids that was my sup for a while that doesn't even have a car.
What is your time limit on needing a perm solution and what other (car pool, bus etc) options to do you have. I've made some really bad car choices before and I chalk about 50% of it up to being rushed on what I did.
the more i think about it the best idea seems to be for me to take the $1,700 dollars and fix a couple of mechanical problems with the car, pocket the rest and end up with a fairly reliable car that has a banged up corner.
as long as you don't have a problem with driving that and it's not impeding your headlights or anything to warrant getting pulled over, I'd go for that
as long as the suspension/steering didn't get screwed up and the damage is just cosmetic i would say just patch it up and move on. it should be pretty easy for you to find a used fender at copher's or langston's or soemthing. the paint won't match but you won't have the hassel of figuring out the quirks of a new used car, looking for a new used car, registering a new used car....

But if it's just cosmetic (didn't even pierce the radiator?) Then that is a good idea..
What mechanical issues do you have?
