Today's Google Doodle is a little strange. They've spelled it out with cakes and sweets and the alt text says "Happy Birthday" and links to my Google+ profile page. But what does it mean??
They started doing it early last summer, as long as you listed your birthday in your Google+ profile. I've been waiting a long time to see it. They also list birthdays on the search page of people you have in your circles, with a link you can use to quickly send a birthday message. Been getting those all morning.
Google only knows because I allowed it to know. They have excellent privacy settings. I've made my profile unsearchable but also allowed Google to access minimal personal information, based entirely on my own comfort level. Also, anything I post I can make accessible to the entire public (I usually do), or only to those who use Google+, or only to those people I have circled, or only to a select few. There's so much to control that I'm not worried about what gets out to whom. You can join and keep any info private and share your posts only with me and/or Trika, or anyone else we can talk into joining. I'm over there far more than here anyway. LJ has become brief highlights now.

As for the other cake... Jack be nimble, Jack be quick, Jack jumps on his candlestick!

That's kinda freaky and probably why I haven't joined Google+.
Happy Birthday though! :D
