Do it! 5k isn't all that far really. I managed 4km in 23minutes, of which I walked a good 2km. You should find an event near your school (like say, a triathlon since your season is coming up) and that way you will be more motivated or will feel that you are just hurtling towards it and then all of a sudden you're there so you have to do it, and you can't pull out and then your finished. Yup, denial is good right up until the day.
