lovely, very lovely. i especially loved this bit : "We’re all prisoners of the human condition, House. We all want what we can’t have. But sometimes the stars align. If you get a second chance, take it, you lucky bastard. Most people don’t even get one, and Gd knows you don’t deserve two."
I'm very glad you're enjoying the story. I love interchanges between Wilson and House on the show - when we learn that despite all House's attempts to show us otherwise, we see how much he truly values Wilson's input.
I absolutely adore the stuff with the clock. House fiddling with it, Wilson taking it away from him. That's a very nice detail, very in character for both of them.
When I originally wrote this chapter, my husband and I were in the middle of our own mini film-festival, and had recently watched all of James Dean's movies with lots of commentary. He was a Method actor, and the narrator had discussed the significance of ordinary "held" objects - like pens, flowers, handkerchiefs, etc. - which Method actors used to give an impression of reality and "naturalness" to their scenes. Wilson's clock was my conscious tribute to the Method.
Thank you for noticing, and thank you for reading and posting!
