I'm much better at writing Snape than Hermione, myself, for the same reason--I think I'm a cynical, spiteful creature :-P Hermione, though I definitely do identify with her bookishness and know-it-all tendencies, is fundamentally optimistic, which is hard. And girls are hard to write anyway, imo. Why would that be? *ponders
