Filtered (badly) to Inoue Orihime

Hey, uh, just so you know, I'm gonna be staying with Chad. You're staying with people too, right?

So these monster things....they're obviously not hollows or arrancar. Can anyone tell me what they are then?

The monsters you are referring to are called decapod crustaceans, more commonly known as crabs. They are a part of the order of Decapoda. The former allotment of their name originates from the Greek word meaning "ten legs", a reference to the five pairs of thoracic legs each possesses. They normally reside in warm, tropical waters but in this case, I believe it is safe to assume that these creatures are deviant from the ones that most humans normally consume.

I would be willing to provide a more thorough analysis, if that is your request.

I didn't think these things were in the encylopedia, nice definition.

It is only verbatim from what is provided on the reference network. And of course, the enhanced adaptations are not noted.

I profess that I have a personal interest in earth's native creatures.

Well, are we talking about the smaller monsters or the really large ones?
